it might not be news to others but it was to me. "Soon" we are going to be able to book Westin Puerto Vallarta with Staroptions according to a Vistana sales rep i spoke on the phone with today. He pointed out it was already on the vistana website

Was a Westin Hotel

There is already a timeshare on the property - Raintree Club Regina RCI 2659
At one time they had the same ownership .

The property is in the Marina Vallarta area which a very nice location .

Same thing in Cancun & Cabo

This is an interesting move, especially considering Marriott’s total void of properties in Mexico. Vistana has had a presence and now looks like a strong presence. I really think we will see a cross-pollination of the two systems in the future and will be curious to see how it looks.

Thanks for posting this.

Best,

Greg

MVC's CEO mentioned Mexico as one of the benefits of the merger.

Yes, totally understood and agreed, but it’s only a benefit of the merger if they cross-pollinate the system, and I remain curious to see how Marriott is going to do that.

We were told to look at how they handled their last merger with their Europe division. They assign a point value to each property comparable to their Marriott properties and then require you to purchase 1000 pts to get all your works in the Marriott/ Westin pool , probably Hyatt too. If you own resale its 3,000 pts which is pricey. Or you can keep what you have though it will diminish the ability to exchange internally. That's what we were told in 2 separate Marriott presentations . But we are waiting to see what is official before jumping in or purchasing anything more.

the Vistana rep today implied that the cross-pollination would not happen at all. I guess every rep will put the spin that benefits him the most at that moment. How many resorts did they have in the European division? 4-5? It may not be the same thing at all.

Both Hyatt and Vistana reps have said that but they want you to buy from them, Though I would love it if you were right . Marriott is going to want our inventory if they do have one large pool so maybe there will be incentives.

OP, thanks for sharing his update. I hadn't seen the PV resort on the site. Glad to see Vistana add another resort to their portfolio and our options of places to go. I am also looking forward to see how things develop with both Vistana and Hyatt now that they are under the MVC umbrella.

Best regards.

Mike

Puerto Vallarta has been on the Vistana website since at least March. Right now, it is still a hotel and there are no villas. I don't believe I've seen anything indicating a timeline for converting the property to timeshare villas.

Anyone have an update on the Westin PV conversion? I'm at the Sheraton Buganvilias (hotel, not timeshare) for a few more days. I might try to head over to the marina to see what's going on at the Westin.

The Sheraton does have a sales center, but I think they're selling the Buganvilias units, not Aventuras. I declined to go to the presentation, though.

I doubt they would go through with another conversion until the current adventuras inventory is projected to be sold out. Given the uncertainty around the merger of the systems I bet sales are slower, and they might choose to use that conversion as a way to get inventory in the MVC trust to bridge the systems.

I thought this was the same situation as the Sheraton in Hawaii. I thought they were converting rooms to villas and yes it was to be added into the star options system. I know it’s been listed on the vistana site for quite a few months but not able to be booked yet.

The sales people continue to say the long-term plans are to convert The Westin Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta to timeshare villas in a similar manner to what's been done to The Westin Resort & Spa Cancun. However, I'm told they've not seen any communication on when the conversion is to begin.

You can use the Vistana discount code and pay cash. Other than high season, that hotel is pretty inexpensive.

They still need to finish whatever it is that they are doing at the Westin Cancun Resort & Spa. You can reserve it with StarOptions, but it still isn't in Westin Aventuras and they are still working on renovations years after they started.

Thank you. Do you think that it worth using star options for this one ? Or better using the owner discount code ?

You referring to PV? If so, you can't even book it with StarOptions yet. As for Westin Cancun, I probably wouldn't even book there. Lagunamar is far superior.

Totally agree. We just spend a week at Westin Lagunamar. Was amazing (and we bought an encore package :))

Yes, I think Lagunamar is a far superior property and location. Westin Cancun is way down at the far end of the hotel strip, miles further from downtown, though it’s closer to the airport (not sure that’s a good thing. I’ve heard the beach is better at the Westin Cancun, so it may have one advantage, but otherwise it’s inferior in my book.

Unless Lagunamar is sold out, I’m not sure how they sell the other Westin. Of course, if they’re only going to sell a points product going forward, they’ll just throw it into that pool along with a handful of Lagunamar weeks, and do the old bait and switch… sell people on Lagunamar, and buyers will later find that they can’t book into Lagunamar but there's plenty of availability down the road…

Last I heard the Westin PV will unlikely ever become inventory and added in Vistana as I thought they were looking to divest/sell the property?

At Lagunamar they are selling only points going forward. However, it is possible to book Lagunamar with Aventuras points. I own some Aventuras and was able to get a Thanksgiving week there. The other Westin Cancun is not technically in any trust, including Aventuras, however, Aventuras owners can book it at 12 months out.
