Is it worth selling a DVC contract on my own?

I have a 50 point contract at a place that I will never stay and that "Own where you want to stay" thing has gotten really important.

Can LT Transfer do this or is or just easier to list it with an agent?

[This would be a good question for a private message.]

you'll likely get a higher price and sell it within a day or two via agent. I'd choose one with high volume. Per my experience with The Timeshare Store, for a 50 point contract, you can even try a bit higher than "going rate" and might get a bite, as those small contracts are in short supply. I listed 50 point VWL at $95 when going rate was in the $90-92 range for small contracts. Got an offer the 1st day at $90. Said I'd wait a few days, offer raised to $93 later that day--sold. Contract was not fully stripped, but no current points.
The 10% fee was worth it for the fast, easy sale. I think the commission might be 8.5% now?? With a high volume agent, you should expect it sold in les than 1 week, assuming it's a WDW DVC. Plus, they deal with ROFR. All you do is sign the papers.

If you're set on selling then it depends on how much you want to fool with it. You'll likely get a higher price through a broker but not high enough to cover the commissions. My take is if it's something more desirable like VGF, BWV, BCV, Poly, BLT or VGC or to an acquaintance; I'd likely try to sell it on my own. If you did, you could sell it about 4-5% cheaper and pocket 4% roughly. That could be $200 or so. The seller gets roughly the same savings plus they also save on closing since they could use something like LT transfers to complete the purchase. It just depends on the priorities. The other issue is many of the resale companies allow non exclusive listings so you could actually list it AND try to sell it on your own. In that case you could try for the full amount and potential pocket $4-500 more.

I've decided to just go ahead and list it with an agent. I bought 2 resales and both home resorts are now going for $30 more per point than what we paid just 3 years ago. My husband is saying to go ahead and hang onto it. But if I don't want to stay there, I don't want to stay there.

Assuming no financial needs my tendency is to hold on to them esp if they're qualified contracts. Even if you don't use the points you can always do a rental every couple of years. By the time you pay taxes on the gains, the gains on smaller contracts isn't going to be that much.
