I can't thank you all enough for all your help! You saved us from a $23,000 mistake! We just rescinded our TS contract. Now for getting educated and making a wise decision.

1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where?

We live in Texas and have rented from Hyatt Wild Oar Ranch several times. debating between owning there - which we're kind of tired of but its close and Hyatt Beach House which I don't think we'd get tired of the Keys but we'd always have to fly. If anything happened financially, that may not be a good thing, but we could always trade for closer resort with II within driving distance like Destin.
Florida - Summer
Colorado - Winter & Summer

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?
At least half

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
Florida
Colorado
Any Tropical Island - Not too picky
California
Italy

4) How many people do you usually travel with? 3-4ppl We have one son in college and one will be in 4 yrs.

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule? School Schedule but only for 4 more years

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance? Yes

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time? Yes

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars? 4

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing? $2,000 (We just rescinded on Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch $23,000 for 1100 pts. Now we would ideally like $4-$8000 for 2000-2200 pts.

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year? $1,200

11) Are you a detail oriented planner? Yes

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do? Yes

If I understand correctly and you have $2000 available and you would finance the rest this is not the time to buy. Never finance a timeshare. It means you can’t afford it.

I saw that and thought it had to be a typo.

But if not, Panina is right; never finance a timeshare. If you cannot pay cash, wait until you can (at least).
