Suggestions what to do for 4th of July in west maui (4 adults & 2 kids)? We're staying at Kahana Falls, but don't mind driving a bit within west maui.

Then we'll be on Oahu for my birthday, which is a Saturday, so looking for special ideas or places to eat (2 adults/2 kids). We check out of HHV that day and will end up at our VRBO unit on the north shore, so all of oahu is game.

Lastly, we have our own snorkel equipment, but thinking of renting a surfboard, any tips? I'm hoping the resorts will have a couple chairs and boogie board for us to borrow. I have a popup sun shade, but don't know if it's pointless with the wind? We've never been to maui.

Regarding places to eat on Oahu, there are 1000s of places to eat. It depends on budget and priorities and if you put atmosphere higher than fine food. I suggest you walk down the beach to the Shorebird and cook your own steaks on the grill. Get there early so you can see the beach activity before it gets dark. The Hilton has a bunch of good places to eat too. Or you can go over to Ala Moana mall and find a dozen fine food places. If you rent a car one day, go to Nico’s Pier 38 to eat fresh fish.

In Honolulu try the Side street, Inn 614 Kapahulu Ave. The food is family style so try lots of different dishes and share. My daughter lives in Honolulu and I was introduced to this place by locals. It is my favorite, best food and the bill didn't require me mortgaging my house!
