1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where?
The 2 locations we visit most frequently are Orlando and Las Vegas.

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?
However, most of the time, we would most likely visit somewhere new.

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
We like to visit different places all the time, but we would like to visit Los Angeles, Hawaii, Mexico, Washington D.C., New York, New Orleans

4) How many people do you usually travel with?
Usually it is just me and my wife; however, from time to time, we go with another couple.

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
Any time is fine.

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
We can plan in advance, but we also like to go on somewhat last minute long weekend trips.

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
Yes.

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
We usually stay in 2-3 star hotels.

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
3,000

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
1,000

11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
My wife is definitely a planner.

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?
Yes.

We usually go on multiple vacations per year, one "big", and a couple long weekends. I am not sure that Timesharing is the best idea for us since we like to go to a variety of locations. But since we travel so much, I thought it might be able to save us some money. We also don't need fancy places with all the frills. We don't usually spend much time in the room anyway.

I'm not sure timesharing is the best idea for you either. Your two primary destinations -- Vegas and Orlando -- are easy last minute rentals (except over holidays). No need to own to get there, and probably cheaper to rent last minute than to buy.

Timesharing works best for full week trips planned far in advance. You won't save money by timesharing (compared to the 2-3* hotels you currently rent) and you will get additional living space and a kitchen, but I question whether that benefit would be worth the loss of flexibility for you.

I think you are a good candidate for a points style timeshare. You can use points for a full week reservation, or shorter reservations. Once you spend a week in a unit with a full kitchen and living room, you will not want to stay in hotels.

Club Wyndham offers the locations listed. Wyndham has some locatins in Mexico or you could use the RCI exchange included with your membership to exchange to Mexico for the additional exchange fee.

Since you can travel off-season, it would fit with your annual maintenance fee budget. The cost per point depends on the home resort purchased. Club Wyndham Access is a blend of resorts with mf of <$6 per thousand points.

This would make a week stay in a 1 bedroom during Value Season approximately:

Anaheim, CA - $1280 (Only Prime Season is available), 4 nights checking out Friday = $720

Kona, Hawaii - $1200 for 2 Bedroom Deluxe

Kauai Beach Villas, Hawaii - $1200 for 1 Bedroom standard view

Orlando Star Island - $462 for Suite, $504 for Deluxe

Orlando Bonnet Creek - $504 for 1 bedroom Deluxe, $672 for 2 bedroom Deluxe

Washington D.C.

Old Town Alexandria - $462

National Harbor - $756

Short, mid-week stays are an even better value. The weekends are priced higher.

Here is an example of an Ebay auction. Total purchase price $1277 with annual maintenance fees of approximately $924

It takes an investment of time to learn how to use a points systems such as this.
