USPS Service Alerts
Last updated Sept. 20, 2017, 8 a.m. ET

Hurricane Maria made landfall on Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands this morning with sustained winds of 155 mph. The storm brought dangerous winds and torrential rains that are causing flash flooding.

Jose has been downgraded to a tropical storm, but is expected to produce coastal flooding, high surf, tropical storm-force winds and heavy rain throughout New England and down the Atlantic Coast as far as Delaware.

All postal facilities on Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have been closed since yesterday in preparation for Hurricane Maria. As soon as the storm passes and it is safe to do so, USPS will begin to re-open postal facilities on the islands.

Now is the time...
BTW, it won't help if you have no power, since your i-net connection is out, too.

But more on-topic...
When we cancelled our SW Florida trip last week, we forgot to cancel our "hold mail" order.
Our mail-guy saw us and said, "I have mail for you, but I'm not supposed to give it to you."
He said he could cancel the mail hold for us. We agreed and he handed over the mail.

But the cell towers may still be up, and you could use your smart phone to do all your banking, etc. You could charge your phone from your vehicle if you had no electricity.

I know several people in Florida that have been relying on their smart phone for all communication the last week since their houses had no electricity, phone, internet, etc.
