What I understand is that owners from affiliates can join HGVC for a $400 fee. This is fee is non-transferable, meaning that when a owner of an affiliate, who paid the $400 fee, sells the week, the new owner must pay $400 fee to join HGVC.

Here is a new twist. GP Mar Brisa is rumored to be a little different. First, when you buy direct, you are automatically joined to HGVC. You do not have the option not to join. When you sale the property in the secondary market, the new owner will not be given the option to join HGVC. The new owner will only be able to trade within GP system and whatever other secondary system that excepts it (RCI, II, Redweek, etc..)

Hope this helps.

Is GP Mar Brisa the only one without the option to join HGVC when bought as resale?

I don't see GP Mar Brisa on this list, is there another more update list?

That is because it is a new resort that justed opened late this year. My guess is the HGVC article you are linking to is just a slight bit out of date, as it is at least date this summer. There are a name change on that list, as the Ruby Lake is not Parc Soliel. There are also some pricing and slight rule changes that might also need to be updated, regarding membership dues and auto saving and rescuing of points.

I also did not see any mention of the Club Intrawest and Fiesta American access that is like the GP access, but there can be some what limited availability at these properties.

I don't have any info about how to use Fiesta American. If you could share it with me I'll try and do an update.

PS Club Intrawest is not an HGVC affiliate. HGVC & CI just share some inventory with each other.

There are a few resorts that are not HGVC resorts, but with which HGVC has an arrangement with. You can get info from these resorts in the 2008 Member Guide. http://www.hgvc.com/mg. Haven't seen or heard of the 2009 version yet.

I would lump them into two categories: Those that can book online with HGVC and those that would require a phone call to check inventory.

Booking online can be done with the following associated resorts:
Fiesta Americana Villas Acapulco
Fiesta Americana Villas Cancun
Fiesta Americana Villas Los Cabos
Grand Pacific MarBrisa Resort

The following require an phone call.
All of the affiliate resorts in Florida
All of the HGVIC Scotland Resorts
All of the Club Intrawest properties, and
Grand Pacific Palisades Resort in CA.
Grand Pacific Seapointe Resort, CA

By the way in inventory system calls new resort in Orlando, Parc Soleil by Hilton Grand Vacations Club.

You can add GP Seapointe Resort, CA to the phone in. HGVC must have made a management agreement with the resort prior to the 2008 members book coming out.

what about The Charter Club on Marco Island? A friend inherited a 2bdrm week and he does not want it and I can buy it from him very reasonably.

However, I only want to buy it if I can conver it to HGVC points. It is a fixed week 23 and he doesn't know anything about HGVC.

If I buy this week from him, can I pay the $400 and convert it to HGVC points?

Just remember week 23 is a silver week and so it is worth 3,500 HGVC points.
