Looks like we are on hold again with paying the 2006 taxes. Just received an email titled " Urgent Ownership News":

As of September 11, 2008, the Government of the Virgin Islands has been directed by the District Court to rescind all 2006 property tax bills; therefore, all property owners are advised to withhold payments of their 2006 property tax bills until further notice. The Attorney General is presently seeking to clarify issues raised in the District Court’s ruling, and the Division of Property Tax will continue to inform property owners as more information becomes available.

I am not surprised!

I have owned at the Westin St. John for six years and have always received tax bills two years late. I use to call, worried the bill may have gotten lost in the mail but now I know - tax bills are issued on Island Time! :hysterical:

Many counties in the USA bill for taxes in arrears. This is not all that uncommon.

How does the issue with property taxes work with resales? I recently saw something on the marriott website which seemed to indicated that the taxes for the past few years were not determined. Does that mean new owners of the properties get stuck w/ past tax bills upon purchase?

The HOA should have been collecting an estimated amount from the owners. So there should be money in the fund when they become due. Just guessing that this is what happened.

The HOA does not collect our taxes. Taxes are paid separately to St. Thomas. That is part of the problem. Our Hawaii dues include our taxes. For our DSV II we pay directly to the state of CA. Paying taxes depends on the state, territory or country where the TS exists.
