President Joe Biden on Thursday issued two executive orders mandating vaccines for federal workers and contractors and announced new requirements for large employers and health care providers that he said would affect around 100 million workers, more than two-thirds of the U.S. workforce.

Biden also announced that he asked the Department of Labor to issue an emergency rule requiring all employers with 100 or more employees to ensure their workforce is fully vaccinated or require any unvaccinated workers to produce a negative Covid test at least once a week.

I can agree with the idea that there is an alternative option / weekly testing.

Forcing people do do something they personally don't agree with no alternative .........

Will we have to show proof of vaccinations? Or is this the honor system?

The problem is that one size doesn't fit all! People who had Covid shouldn't be lumped in with other unvaccinated, since most still carry the antibody, as demonstrated in extensive research in Israel and the Cleveland Clinic. If the vaccine worked so well, why do the vaccinated have to worry about people not being vaccinated. [Redacted/political] I expect this executive order will be struck down by the courts, [redacted.]

I personally believe that requiring vaccination is good so I agree with the Mandate. However, I also feel that people have the right to not be forced to get vaccinated if they don't want to but not getting vaccinated may have consequences just like breaking any rule or law. We all go through life having to obey rules and laws. Some we agree with, and some we don't. I would love to not have to obey the rules and laws that I don't agree with. If we obey the rules and laws we usually don't get into trouble and have negative consequences. If we don't obey the rules and laws we may get into trouble and have negative consequences.

Not to worry, you won't have to obey the recent OSHA "vaccine mandate" rules. (at least that "mandate")

The Wall Street Journal and other newspapers said the governors of many Republican states will immediately file lawsuits to stop the "executive order" requiring vaccinations.
it will be in the court system for years.

Of course you can always get a "religious" exemption if you feel vaccines are too "authoritarian"

My employer makes us show proof…..of course they’re also the one that administered them, so they already have the records.

On your honor never works because they’re are to many without honor.

This is a public health vs personal liberty issue. The courts have routinely sided with public health in these matters but sided with personal liberty when it didn’t affect everyone (has to be a contagious disease like CoVid vs mental illness)

They can’t necessarily hold you down and inject you, but they can restrict your freedoms or fine you for not being vaccinated. So in a way you have a choice, just not a very good choice.

My bet is this gets fast tracked through the courts. Each lower court will uphold the order, so it will remain in force until/unless a lower court rules against the order. Yes it may take a year or two to hit the Supreme Court, but by then it will be a moot point anyway.

I expect they’ll file their cases, but it will all be for show with their voting base. They know the history and know their chances are very low, but you MUST keep your voters happy. To do nothing invites losing the next election. To fight and lose gives you campaign rhetoric

So what happened with the USPS workers that seem to be excluded from the mandate?

"USPS workers not included in Biden mandatory vaccination order"

I work for a Wisconsin state agency and was required to upload a copy of my vaccine card into to our personnel system (deadline to do it was this week).

Get a grip. This is all political and media hype. Governments require fire extinguishers in businesses and seat belts in cars. So what! It is about public safety. If an anti-vaxxer shows up for work without testing and make others sick, they are a threat to public health and safety.

The problem is not the government but the anti-vaxxers who couldn't stay home and avoid infecting others.

Bottom line: Anti-vaxxers could not self police themselves so the govt had to step in. Blame the anti-vaxxers. They failed to do what's right to protect others. I am pissed off that my vaccinated son who works in a grocery store was infected by a covidiot who would not quarantine. My son has been called names while handing out masks at the door. He is just a college kid doing his job! It's time to nip this in the bud stat so we can get back to normal.

I'm not sure history is on the side of what the current administration is attempting to do here. My current understanding is that there is past legal precedence for states (as well as cities/counties) to exercise broad authority for public health reasons. States have broad public health authority especially when SOEs are in effect. So at a non-federal level, states/cities/counties have successfully mandated vaccination protocols in the interests of public health during past pandemics. That said, there is not much of any past legal precedence for any mandates at the federal level - which is likely why the current administration did what they did - attempting to enforce vaccination protocols indirectly via employer mandates through rules written by agencies like OSHA for example. Federal level mandates are likely to be tested in the courts quickly as a result. I suspect at a federal level there's a fairly good chance such mandates will not withstand legal challenges.

What about people who get sick from "breakthrough" cases among the vaxxed? Why don't you blame them, as well?

@Ralph Sir Edward Simple. The breakthrough people did what they could to protect others by getting vaccinated. The anti-vaxxers didn't do squat, and most importantly (as evidenced by the positivity rate) didn't take precautions to protect others. Besides, only a small percentage get breakthrough infections compared to the unvaxxed. Run the stats - simple math. The reason we have breakthrough infections is because there are so many unvaxxed running around infecting others.

We need to protect our children and get back to normal. Enough is enough. The anti-vaxxers had their chance to self-police and they blew it.
