I have a points membership to Paradise Vacation Club in Nueva Vallarta, Mexico. I am looking to sell. I have done some research and I have realistic expectations. Is this an appropriate place to try to sell it or should I go with eBay/Craigslist like I have read?

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
You will want to contact the club and find out what the transfer fee (if any) and see if they could give you an approximate time frame for the transfer. You will want to know all the details (size, season #of points) including any rtu end date if applicable. If you are giving it away there is a forum here. If you are selling you could list on ebay/craigslist and/or redweek.

Most Mexican vacation clubs have no value. You don't actually 'own' anything. It's simply a membership club. You may have a certain number of weeks to use, or a week a year for X number of years. The plans differ. As stated above, find out exactly what you have, and what the club charges to transfer your membership to someone else and go from there. If you are wanting to terminate your obligation, simply stop paying. They have no hold over you, and will just drop you from the membership. Whatever you have already paid is gone either way.

Welcome to TUG.

If you decide you want to sell it on TUG, the appropriate place to list it is in the TUG Marketplace. You can click on "Marketplace" in the blue bar at the top of this page.
If you decide to try to give away your membership, here is the forum you use to post about it: https://tugbbs.com/forums/forums/free-timeshare-giveaways-and-bargain-deals.55/

I would love to do this but assumed/feared it would be sent to collections for the duration of my obligation?

Highly unlikely. They REALLY have nothing to hold you to. And even if they did, there is no property, no deed, nothing to foreclose, and even if it was presented to a credit agency, you are entitled to write a mitigating letter to accompany any credit inquiry. Any potential future creditor could easily see that bailing on a vacation club simply increases your disposable income that you could use to buy THEIR widget. In this case, a default is nothing to lose sleep over.
