My wife and I are spending the winter in Bucerias — just a little north of Nuevo Vallarta (near Puerto Vallarta).

We'd love an opinion on overall crime and safety. We don't need the usual cautions about not walking down dark alleyways at night...

Instead, we'd like a sense from people in the area now (or recently) as to whether they feel safe from robbery and assault especially compared to previous years.

Is there a sense of increased gang activity? Kidnappings? What are people hearing (both on the news and via conversation)?

Not concerned to discuss COVID safety here — that's been discussed elsewhere. More interested in crime.

My wife's first cousin lived in Bucerias for years. He recently move to the Lake Chapala area. Crime against regular tourists is usually very petty like short change and regular theft. You would feel right at home because every third person in Bucerias during winter are Canadians. We usually stay at a resort just north of Bucerias for weeks at a time and have no problems.

You could check the PV News. https://www.vallartadaily.com/

We stay in PV and Nueva Vallarta every year and go into Bucerias several times and never did we feel unsafe. while up there make the trip to Litibu and go to the Litibu grill for a wonderful experience and lunch. check it out on their website for reservations.
