No need for a pager, but we were at a recent timeshare owners update and I saw a pager sitting on the sales reps desk. I guess there are holdouts everywhere. We don't really have a need for a smartphone. WIth WiFi just about everywhere, my wife's iPad does the trick as her messenger service and VOIP calling phone. We do have basic flip phones for emergency use or for the odd text message.

Isn't the iPad kind of big for your wife to carry around in her purse? :D

It is, but when out and about we just go without. We use the flip if there is something urgent, but otherwise it can wait. It also eliminates the texting while driving issue I see all to often.

Given the size of some women's purses these days, some of them would easily hold their kitchen sink as well.....

Do you have a checking account with Chase? You can't pay a mortgage payment with a credit card. The merchant fees would eat up the profit.

When I go to pay my Chase credit card, Chase "knows" I have a mortgage with them. The page gives me the option to go into the CC details or the mortgage. They made the connection, I never told them I have an Amazon Chase CC as well as a Chase mortgage. In fact I think I signed up for the cc at another house with a separate mortgage company. Mortgage page has a place to enter checking acct routing and account numbers, and I try every six months of so when it jumps out at me, but it rejects the same info they have when I pay my CC from my checking acct. Easier to stick a stamp on an envelope for the next year or so that we own this house, rather than calling to find out what gives.

I think every year or so you relish finding a thread so you can gleefully post how happy you are that you are still without a modern phone. So glad I could help this year!

What I'm really trying to picture is using the iPad as a phone.

There is certainly no privacy using the iPad as a phone!

She isn't using the iPad as a phone in a public setting. Mainly while traveling and in our villa to call family.
I understand. It's just hard to get the visual out of my mind of someone lifting their iPad to their ear. ;)

I'm sure there are three or four people...in the country...
My point was that there is at least one other in this thread. I am not the only one.

As I've gone paperless for any company that allows it and have been paperless for at least ten years, I would love to know your thoughts on why you would not go paperless.

It is so much easier to just go into my file cabinet and pull out the statement for something. I know when I also receive the bill in the mail, I will look at it same day. If I were to get it via email, or would have to log in to the website/portal (however it's posted), I bet I would not be checking it monthly.

Also, there are many times when I have had difficulty with the desk top computer or my laptop. My Mac laptop, I once spilled hot chocolate - it took a few days to bring it to Apple only to find out it could not be saved and bought a new one. My desktop - pretty new - but I don't use either for much (emails, browse websites, store pictures), sometimes I sit there and it does not load up or out of the blue, it is slow loading up/turning on. Not sure what the terminology is. I also have to go look at my password on my typed sheet of passwords. It is just so much easier to pull open the draw and pick out the file. The good old fashion way. It takes me a while to keep up with technology :) - but mainly because - I doubt I would go and look at my bill each month on the computer - and then I would not catch certain things. Crazy to some....;)

I too have a lifetime supply of checks. Bill Pay on line, and prepaid debit cards for gifts instead of checks. Learned that when 4 months after Christmas my nephew still hadn't cashed our check. He found it on the floor of his truck. Just plain prefer not to have our account number floating around ~

I doubt I will ever order blank checks again, except maybe to change our imprint.
If I were to take a check out of the house, I'd want my bank's # in my cell in case of theft.
