Something I noticed this morning while digging through the HRC website, the addition of “BEYOND”. Most folks know that using “points” in other programs, say hotel points for an “experience”, is a poor value. Well, “BEYOND” goes beyond a poor value and enters ridiculous territory.

Take a hike in Big Sur for 750 points, 325 points for a round of golf at Bonita Springs (it includes a fountain drink though), or a three hour catamaran and snorkel for 925 points. Currently, I value one point at 85¢ each. So a hike is $637.50, a round of golf is $276.25, and a sail boat ride is $786.25... all of which will increase in a few months.

Just for fun, what do these experiences cost if paying out of pocket? Hiking in Big Sur is free, or $10 for parking at a state park. A round of golf at Raptor Bay, they have “online specials” ranging from $35 to $50 depending on the time slot. Sail and snorkel for $59, currently discounted to $46.81 per person.

At any rate, I thought I would share my BEYOND experience with everyone here.

Thanks for the update. Yes it looks ridiculous. If the examples you gave are any indication , then how dumb do they thing we are anyway. ? And how with a straight face could they value those activities at those point prices ?

The only thing crazier than the "BEYOND" program is that there are people that use/buy them.
