I bought a set of clippers w/combs very early (I was overdue for a haircut even before the world turned upside down.) A 5 on the top, 4 on the sides, and a 2 to taper the neckline. I have trimmed it myself twice now. It is not perfect but it is passable--especially with a small bit of hair paste to keep things organized. I'm looking forward to having a professional take over, but until then this is fine. This was just last week.

(I ordered tools to tune my bike myself for this season, too. Finding that there are a bunch of things that maybe I don't need to pay someone else to do!)

My hair is so bad, I had to order two wigs for when my office opens on June 1st and I'm the official temperature taker every day at the office.

DH asked me to cut his hair tomorrow. He has really nice naturally curly hair and when this started he said he was going to let his hair grow until this is over. I thought he just wanted me to shape it up but he said cut it short. Not sure if he's tired of the hair or the different States starting to open up counts as close enough to this being over as far as cutting his hair goes.

This below is pretty much me. I decided to let my bangs grow while we've been SIP. Not a genius idea for someone who absolutely hates having her hair hanging in her eyes. It's going so well that I'm considering going to a beauty salon for a boy hair cut when this is over. After reading the thread about getting a wig that sounds pretty appealing too.

Let's see some pictures of how bad people need haircuts. I'm willing to go a couple more months if it takes that long to be safe.

My head looks like yours except my neck in the back had so much hair I felt like I could flip it to cover over the top and front. I was just about ready to get a haircut when the sip started. Yesterday I had my wife take some scissors to the long part on my neck.

I give myself a haircut every other day. I shave it. Takes about the same time as shaving face. Thinking about it, I remember sitting in barbershop & every one was coughing & sneezing except me. I left & went home and shaved my head. Twenty years later & have been free from flu. I get a cold about once every 5 years or so. Realize now that I have socially isolating for past 20 years. Retired in 9/1999. DW has been retired since 1995. She has also enjoyed similar good health except for the 4 years she spent as city council woman. She DOES NOT SHAVE HER HEAD.

I couldn't stand it any longer- and the dog had been groomed. I was envious, so I smoothed the shaggies around my ears while I shaped up the facial fur....

But did you also trim around the snout?

The dog has a great fu manchu. Mine. . . .Well, it's sorta business as usual- I do my own anyway. The hair, however seems to be morphing into a 'senior' mullet. White, below shoulder length, with a solar collector on top.

I finally cut my bangs and touched up my roots. It came out a little lighter than I wanted, but that's better than too dark. Next time I will go slightly darker. I don't have a good pair of scissors to cut my bangs, but they look OK, and at least they are no longer hanging in my eyes!

As long as you didn't cut your bangs straight across you're good. :D

I got my haircut yesterday and how the shop handled it was fairly reassuring.

  • The stylists all had face masks and had been supplied with extra aprons so that they could change frequently.
  • Haircuts were by appointment only, no walk-ins. Appointments were on the half hour and had to be made the same day or the day prior.
  • I was required to have a facemask that attached behing the ears. (No bandanas, not because they were deemed unsafe but because of the difficulting they would cause cutting hair.)
  • Upon arrival in the parking lot, I was to phone in. They would then signal me when I could come in. (They did not have room for safe spacing for waiting customers.)
  • I needed to fill out a form upon entry. In part, I had to sign that I had no coVid-19 symptoms, but they were also taking down my name, address, phone number, and email. All this was done, so that they could do contract tracing.
  • Most of the haircut was done with my face mask on. The very last step was to do my sideburns and trim around the ears. At that point, I was asked to take the face mask off but hold it up over my face to cover my mouth and nose. This allowed the stylist to finish up the part that could not be done while I was wearing my face mask.

All of these steps seemed reasonable to me, both to protect the workers and myself. Because all of this limited the number of customers that they could handle, the cost of the haircut was $2.50 more than what it would normally have been. Again, struck me as quite reasonable.

I really need a haircut bad now also. Sounds like they can open June 5th.

New Mexico will most likely open up for salons, gyms and dine in eating on June 1. Usually when a date is announced the governor doesn't pull back on it. I've gotten calls and texts from the shop that does my facials and my manicurist. I've booked a facial, but I'll wait a bit for the manicure/pedicure. I've been in touch with my hairdresser and have an appointment set up for June. The only place I will not be going back to, if they open up on June 1, is the gym. Oh yeah, and dine in eating. I want to see what peoples' experiences here are like first. But what I'd really like is a massage.

Did my third cut-my-own trim yesterday. I only have one mirror, so the back is done by feel. No one would mistake it for a professional cut, but from a distance it is not too bad! Getting better, for sure. The good news is that I no longer need to let things go when I'm "too busy" to get to the barber.
