I have a friend with a nicer Mexican timeshare. What things to consider when selling?

1) are there any unique transfer fees to consider?
2) once we have a buyer, what are TUG recommended title transfer companies?
3) any good sources to assess market value?
4) anything else to keep in mind when selling a Mexico timeshare?

Unfortunately, Mexican timeshares are not going to bring a high resale price if one can even sell one. If you do find a buyer, you don't need a transfer company because Mexican timeshares are right-to-use and not deeded properties. A transfer is handled by the member services department of each individual timeshare. On one's certificate of ownership it will usually give instructions on how to transfer it and what the transfer fee is.

When I sold my week at Pueblo Bonito Rose in Cabo I posted on the Pueblo Bonito Owners Facebook page and found a buyer fairly quickly. I wasn't
asking a lot for it and the buyer was willing to pay the transfer fee. The transfer was easily handled by the member services dept. because it is just a
matter of changing the name on the certificate of ownership. I think buyer and seller had to complete a simple form and have our signatures notarized.
The form and transfer fee were sent to the member services dept. and that was all that was required.

A source to assess market value would be to look on ebay for completed sales.

You will get better advise if you give more details: resort, season, size, MF etc. We bought Westin Lagunamar through LT transfers, the platinum season does have value. Others resorts are harder if not impossible to sell and the resorts impose a high transfer fee that scares away potential buyers.
I think what Karen G stated is true not only for Mexico but for most timeshares everywhere.

For the most part, you don't own anything to sell. Mexican TSs are 'Right to Use', So there's nothing to transfer. Check with your resort's sales dep't and ask what the cost is to transfer ownership. Then you need to negotiate with the new 'owner' on who pays what to transfer your membership into their name.

Good Luck!

I would suggest that the sales dept. isn't the one to ask about transfers of ownership. The member services dept. is the one to contact.
The sales dept. is generally not your friend!
