Staying at King's Land & will have a car.
Would love to get suggestions for scenic waterfalls that don't require more than a short hike to get to?

In the Hilo area Rainbow Falls and Akaka Falls should both meet that requirement.

You won't find any waterfalls in the area where you are staying as that is the dry side of the island.

The more rain, the bigger the water fall is. So try and go the day after a big rain hits that area.

Akaka Falls is great. It can be very cold over there so make sure you bring extra clothes.

What do you consider very cold?

We've found it can get cold up by the volcano, in the evenings, but not in the Hilo area during the day.

Akaka Falls is great. Short hike. Reasonable parking fee. It can also be muggy and watch for the mosquitoes since it is on the rain forest side of the Big Island.

Make sure to hike the *full loop* at Akaka falls state park, and take your time. You will be rewarded with other, smaller water falls along the way there (or back, depending on which way you go first). The natural growth of the rain forest was also fascinating (at least for nature geeks like us). Get some good bug repellent and you should be fine.
