Would someone educate me on lock off units? How are they used? Can you stay in one unit and rent out the other unit during your week stay? Or do you rent one side of the unit one week and the other on a different week? If you can rent out one side of the unit during your week stay how do you go about registering the other person using the other unit? Thanks for the information.

There are many ways (as you have accurately suggested) to use the lock off feature, however the most popular one is the owner occupies the lock off for one week, and then occupies the master for the following week thus giving the owner two straight weeks for one maintenance fee.

Lockoffs provide many options:
  1. As TimeTraveler has said, you can extend your vacation to two weeks out of one maintenance fee, although it is often difficult to reserve consecutive weeks for each side of the unit you own.
  2. You can invite friends or relatives and let them stay on the studio side while you enjoy the larger side.
  3. You can choose to use one side and rent the other.
  4. You can use one side and deposit the other with one of the exchange companies.
Ultimately, lockoffs provide a lot of flexibility for the owner and are a real plus.
