Tuggers, we are planning a short two-night stay in Colorado in mid/late June, using leftover StarOptions. If you had a choice, would you opt for (1) a studio at the Westin Riverfront; or (2) a 1-bedroom premium villa at Sheraton Mountain Vista?

I've generally heard good things about the Westin (higher end, etc.) but, interestingly, it is rated lower on the TUG Resort Reviews than the Sheraton Mountain Vista (though the Westin has only two reviews so far). We'll be traveling with two grade school aged children, and will have a rental car to park.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and recommendations!

We have stayed at both and are in a riverfront studio for a few days now that the rest of our family has left the 1BR side and another 2BR.
My DW said she will never stay in just a studio alone again. We don't mind if it is attached to the 1BR. Having access to the other room allows some to nap.
I would absolutely go for the 1BR at Mountain Vista
Everything in Avon is within walking distance and there is shuttle service.
Enjoy

I would agree, especially since you're going in the summer. The Westin is located next to the gondola but that's not a factor in the summer. The Westin is newer and nicer than SMV but the SMV premium 1BR is very nice with a full kitchen and they have excellent amenities including a huge kid's activity center / game room. They also have free covered parking.

I also like to add that the Westin has a long walk from the villa to the pool. And though both properties have indoor parking, SMV's is more convenient. But if you want to be pampered, the SPA at the Westin is divine :)

One other point that may or may not be a factor is A/C. The Westin has A/C, Sheraton does not. (I have not stayed at either, but have a rez for this summer.) The A/C issue was something that was brought up frequently in reviews on other sites like Trip Advisor.

Excellent point! A/C is the #1 complaint for SMV during the summer according to resort staff I talked to.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback so far. It is all helpful. The A/C is an important item for the DW. As noted, however, we'll be there in mid/late June. I did a quick search and found that the average high temperature in Avon, CO for June is in the low 70s, and the average low temperature is in the mid to high 30s. "Average," of course, means it could be unseasonably warm when we go. But, assuming the temperatures hold true to their average, A/C wouldn't seem to be an issue. What do you all think?

DW and I are very sensitive to indoor temperature, particularly for sleeping, and were concerned about the lack of AC. We visited SMV in August, when temperatures were fairly warm, and did not find that the rooms became unbearably warm. The trick is to use the fans to get some air movement through the rooms. I would think you'll be fine in June.
