With some dear friends in Maui who said they would not buy but went to sales presentation and now are wanting to enroll and buy some points--your thoughts re offer--2000 points for $21,490; cash payment, enrollment in DC program included, gold status, 2000 bonus DC points which have a 2 year window. Thoughts please re how this offer compares to others being reported. I am getting a referral bonus but friendship is more important than bonus.

Tell them how to join TUG and let them make their own decision.

Terrible deal. Tell them to look at resale if they really want DC points.

good evening

Have the potential buyer look at the points charts and see what 2000 points gets!!!

I think the decision becomes obvious!!!

Are you using "enroll" as in they also own an existing Marriott week?

Can you provide a little more information? If they own only those 2,000 points, then they would be able to stay in a 1BR EOY (it's 3,550 points). Is Every-Other-Year in a 1BR MV what they want?

I think 2,000 points is an impractical number of points for consistent reservations, however, they could always rent more points to minimize the up-front. This is the only way I could justify buying 2,000 points and think they are better off renting off TUG or redweek.com from an owner.

If you have any additional information, we can try to provide better feedback.

Best,

Greg

My opinion? Any points purchase from the developer (ANY developer) is a bad deal right out of the gate.

Instead, give serious consideration to resale points OR resale weeks. By the way; resale weeks give more bang for the buck.

Best of luck with your search.

Initial Marriott purchase. Not previously enrolled. They plan to rent a number of points and have a lot of travel flexibility.

I probably would not do this in their situation, but doing so in the amount and on the terms described here is not as terrible a decision as many TUGGERs would make it out to be.

Any other info you can provide? Age range of your friend, kids...and their ages if applicable. How many days a year would they anticipate spending in MVC resorts, what times of year would they travel, would they usually travel in one week increments, or would they do shorter/longer trips, do they prefer ski trips, beach trips, how far in advance are they able to book trips, etc, etc.

Personally, I would feel guilty getting a referral off my friends for that deal, but others disagree.

I have considered adding to my DC points (via resale) but find that it is hard to match the usage year I have (I have a July 1 to June 30) usage year. From what I understand, in order to properly supplement my points, I need to find on the resale market another 7/1-6/30 use year. To purchase a 1/1-12/31 use year and overlap it with what I have does not seem to work. On the other hand (and I am not saying I will do this), if I buy from MVCI direct they will allow the new points to fall within the same use year as the current points.

Thoughts/comments as to how to get around the issue that there are not many July 1 to June 30 resales out there and I want to have all points available in the same use year....
