Hello all,
I was curious of the probability we could exchange into this resort during summer of 2017??

Any of your thoughts would be appreciated.

Summer is peak time at this property. Would you be using a Marriott unit to trade in. TO have any chance, you would need to be offering a Marriott week that has high trading power. Unlikely to trade up from a studio or 1BR unit. Owners don't usually deposit their summer NCV weeks, they either use them or rent them out. So deposits in to II are rare.

If your making your request now I'd think you have a good chance assuming you're trading like for like or quality for quality. Just the same I always recommend a back up plan.

Keep in mind this is a popular destination where there are few resorts. That tends to make it a more difficult exchange simply because of supply and demand. However, it's not an impossible exchange. Many owners reserve what they believe are the highest demand weeks just for their "perceived" trade value. IOW, they reserve those summer weeks for the express purpose of exchanging. We own a resort I can never reserve a July week but, I can reserve another month, then exchange back into our home resort for a July week. Owners compete to reserve the most "popular" weeks just to have the exchange power and trade them.

We've been timeshare owners since 1998. If I took the popular advice of "that's a nearly impossible exchange" handed out so often on these forums we wouldn't that've made half the exchanges we've made. In all that time we've failed to get an exchange request just once. Request early, trade like for like and have a back up plan just in case. It's always worked well for us.

Since it is a difficult trade, even for Marriott owners, you may want to post an owner to owner exchange in the marketplace with your DVC unit.

I know an owner who specifically bought a floating summer package at the Newport Marriott so she could spend a week there every year with family. She cannot get A late June, July, or early August reservation, and she's doing everything she's supposed to (at the exact hour she should.)

I believe that there are a lot of multiple week owners at NCV that either stay for a few weeks or rent the units out. Check out Redweek. There are 367 rentals (full year), most look to be summer weeks. I suspect that many owners don't deposit into Interval because it isn't a lockoff so it's not a good unit to use as a trader, and because the rents are high it makes more sense to rent it out.

You won't see these in instant exchange for sure. Maybe a late cancellation (within two weeks). I look at instant exchange inventory pretty much every day, multiple times per day, and I have never seen summer weeks there. I haven't tried an ongoing search which would pretty much be your only shot, but you will have to trump everyone's trading power to pull whatever gets deposited by an owner. I was able to get a trade for September and had multiple weeks to choose from, including the week of Labor Day, so if you have flexibility in your schedule I would think that would work. September, especially the first half of the month, is usually just as warm as the summer months. (In CA we call it "secret summer" and I love that time of year because the crowds are gone). I frequently see these weeks with a one bedroom unit, rarely with a studio, and they are usually under preference.

I would put in an ongoing search anyway - you never know. If you can expand your timeframe it would be very helpful.

This is true for me as well...

'Almost' Impossible as a single week owner for me to reserve a summer week. Here is my problem. When the reservation window opens for me -- usually the first week in June -- if I see something available I feel I have to take it rather than wait a few more weeks to see if something comes up later in the season. When I waited one year I was unable to book anything until late September.

As others have mentioned, Marriott SHOULD not have included Oct-Dec as Platinum weeks. Simply not enough summer inventory to serve all owners.

It was a big blunder for owners by Marriott. Of course it helped Marriott. They were able to sell a lot more weeks with the promise to be able to book summer.

I have the same problem, but with a different resort. In our case, July is the most demanded month when the season runs June thru Sept. But I have a trick if I REALLY want a July week. That is book what I can, then put in a request first exchange with II and exchange back in. If it doesn't work, I still have my reserved week, but so far it's always worked. Why? Because a lot of owners think they have the most prime of prime weeks for the trade they want, even though they really don't need that really prime week.

Owners reserve the strongest weeks not just for personal usage, but for trade power. Exchanging for those really hard-for-even-the-ownedrs-to-reserve is nearly as impossible as so many would like to believe.
