This morning I called Marriott to reserve a week in January of 2017. I was told I could not book because only trust points were being accepted. I was told to call back at 12 months and then I could use my DC points.
The rep thought that seemed odd so he checked with his supervisor who also thought it strange but the bottom line was that I could not reserve.
Is this normal? In previous years I have always used DC points to reserve.
January in Hilton Head is slow season so why Trust points?
Any thoughts???

Kathy,

I do not know why that property required Trust Points, but I recently had a similar experience with Ritz Carlton St. Thomas, where it required Trust Points to make a reservation. I actually had two instances of that happening at the same property.

I suspect we will see more of this situation in the future, however for the most part, Elected Points will work fine for most reservations. I agree with the VOA that if you check back periodically, you will get your reservation with Elected Points.

Best,

Greg

I suspect it is because Heritage Club is a small resort with relatively few resorts in the trust and they want to give trust points owners a preference for those weeks.

I understand that many Hilton Head resorts receive few VC points for off season weeks. This could deter weeks owners from converting their weeks to points resulting in a low inventory for enrolled points usage.

I seldom convert my low point value enrolled weeks, and typically exchange them through II if I can't use them.

But January....why would Marriott choose to do this with January weeks? Or could it be with all 13 month reservations? If so that goes directly against the benefits offered to the premium levels.
