And on the other side of the coin, I just read this morning about the retired Albertson's bakery manager and his wife, a cake decorator, who passed, leaving $7 million in Albertson's stock to Boise State University for scholarships for kids of low income parents.

Nice folks, by all accounts.

Forget winning the lottery. These grandparents made a good income--before they got caught.

i agree! $276,000 cash would help get through retirement very easily! Its always great when you find someone able and willing to be an entrepreneur after retirement!

Ive been looking for something to do to supplement my social security.....buying and selling and renting timeshares seems to hold some promise...but I like this grandmothers solution better

Seriously I think we will see more and more children of the 60's entering this business. We used in our youth, why not deal now?

I wouldn't worry -- there's no prison that could hold that woman. If she wants out, she'll spring herself.

But if four pounds of dope accounts for 40% of OK, AR, AL and MO's marijuana use, I'd say our drug problems aren't nearly as bad as the Big Brother says.

What the report didn't mention was, "Who's growing it?" I doubt Ms. Mayes was actually growing all the plants.

Doesn't matter. To me it's just one more non-violent person that I now have to pay for because of our stupid, puritanical, hypocrite society. There's a million more just like her behind bars right now. That's a million people who SHOULD be paying taxes instead of me paying for their room, board and healthcare.

I feel SO much safer with Granny Mayes in prison. Let me tell ya.

I wondered the same thing myself. I saw a television report recently that said marijuana is being grown in the National Parks in Utah. Gives a new meaning to "Rocky Mountain High."

We had a well known commercial real-estate guy growing medical marijuana. It made the news. The fumes made census workers sick in another section of same bldg whenever they did the last census.

How is the smell of plants growing going to make someone sick? Any plants. Cannibis, hydrangeas, lilacs or maple trees. Doesn't matter. They're PLANTS. Go stand in the middle of the Brazilian jungle and take a deep whiff of all those plants. Feel sick? Didn't think so.

The smell of the plants made someone sick with greed. That makes a lot more sense.

("Wow, that smells like some primo herb. I think I'll call Crimestoppers so I can collect the reward money.")

There were some kind of fumes from the process, as reported in the news.

My son served in Afghanistan. Their patrols occasionally took them through marijuana fields. He said they could feel a high when walking through the plants. Perhaps one plant may not have any effect but a field of them does.
