I am a Ko Olina owner, and have an owner week reserved for this summer.

I recently initiated a REQUEST FIRST exchange through II and paid the exchange fee upfront.

A couple of days layer, I got an E-mail from Marriott cancelling my reservation (the conformation number that begins with 8)

I immediately called Marriott, asking why that happened. They said that I had been given a new confirmation number (beginning with 9), but that the week was still mine. The problem is that I have not gotten an E-mail with this new confirmation number on it, nor does this number show up as a valid number in the Marriott online system.

The Marriott rep tells me not to worry. If the exchange happens, I will get a conformation number for the new resort. If I terminate the exchange or it fails to happen, the KO will revert back to me (and I may be given a new conformation number).

This is the first time I've done a Request First exchange, so I'm just wondering if this is normal. Personally, it doesn't give me a warm happy feeling that I don't seem to have a confirmation number that is recognized by anyone but a phone agent at Marriott...

I usually do Request Firsts and this always happens. I think it only means that your unit is restricted until either you cancel the request or it is fulfilled.

Thanks for the quick answer. For the life of me, I don't see why Marriott doesn't send a new confirmation number or at least an E-mail better stating what is going on. After all, who in their right mind is NOT going to call Marriott when they see their confirmation cancelled?
