I will be travelling to HRA very soon and after checking with my mobile phone carrier, I have found that using my phone there is going to be very limited as they charge $3.59 per minute, and .50 cents per text when calling and texting back to the States.

Is a prepaid Phone Card an option at Harborside? If so, what would one look to pay and where might I find one?

Also, how's the internet service there for my laptop? Hopefully good?

Any other advice for a first time visitor to HRA would be much appreciated, we have a 2br Lockout booked and my wife and I have 2 girls, ages 5 and 6.

Thanks in advance for your assistance

Do you have real need to text and make phone calls, or will emailing suffice?

We generally don't make any phone calls, but buy internet access for the week to communicate back home.

Prices:
24 hours-$14.95 120 hours-$59.90
72 hours-$29.90 144 hours-$68.90
96 hours-$49.90 168 hours-$80.40

There's a wired ethernet port in the units at Harborside. There's wireless access in the pool areas. You have to buy time on these systems separately.

You can buy a pre paid phone card by the pay phones in the casino. Its by the casino bathrooms, the exit to the marina, and the corridor to atlantis shops like gucci.

We bought a $10 one and it was fine for a couple calls back home, with time still left on the card.

Is the eternet cord in the unit?

I'm assuming so............

Is the internet connection Great, or just OK? I assume if it's a hard wired connection, it should be pretty good...

I have a couple of conference calls that I have to be on during my stay, and I will probably be on the phone for a total of 2 to 3 hours, which is why I was wondering about a phone card vs. $3.59 per minute.

Thanks for your feedback and assistance

When I go to Harborside (or outside the US) I use Skype or other VoIP service over the Internet connection from the resort. With the skype iPhone app, it's even easier since I just connect an Apple Airport wireless router (many other similar solutions to this) and connect all our equipment. We had many devices share the same connection (and cost) this way, multiple phones, iPads, laptops, etc. In any case, once you create your own wireless network you can use your skype app on your phone for your calls, and they sound great. My experience with the Internet at Harborside has been mixed, but its not as bad as some locations (think Cancun).

Skype charges ~$20 for a phone number for three months and $0.02 per minute to US destinations.

Cord should be in the unit, but still bring one. Could take hours/days to get one if you unit's is missing

Connection varies. Usually decent speed, but occasionally quite slow. And the outlet in the unit could have problems....Last time I actually took the faceplate off the wall, jiggled the wires, and then my port came to life.

Can you use the phone card in the unit or just at those pay phones? I was under the impression that even if you were using a card, you still had something charged to your room.

We seem to be able to use 4 units on the internet connection but I think we bring a wireless router==technology impaired so not sure that is what it is called.
I just put skype on my iphone and plan to use that if I need to make calls. Wasn't aware there was a charge for calls however per the post above.
The internet is at pools and works fine but the largest challenge is being able to see a screen in the bright sun.
We go January 7th-14th==just saw the poker tournament is then so plan to make dinner reservations as soon as I can get a consensus of where they want to eat dinner as that probably means hotel will be totally booked--good and bad--good hopefully means most restaurants will be open but bad is without reservations before arrival will be hard to get decent times.
