This is something the website isn't clear on. Quoting the site about cancelling a reservation and the use of the points:

"Cancelled Reservation Points may be used for all program features with the exception of Priority Reservations, Points Credit Pool, Converting Points to Maintenance Dollars or Wyndham Rewards® Conversion Program."

I have 2000 Cancelled Reservation Points to use from 1/1/2012 - 12/31/2012. What can they be used for, since those alone are not enough to make another reservation?

They can be used with your regular use points. For example if you rent something that needs 42,000 points, you can use the 2,000 cancelled points plus 40,000 from your use year.

If you have points available in your use year, Wyndham uses them first and your cancelled points last. But you can call Wyndham and ask them to adjust your points so that the cancelled points are used (thus get rid of them first). You need to do it the day you make your reservation, or the next day if you book online and member services is closed.

Keep track of your points. Ask Wyndham what they show for a balance before and after they make the adjustment. Check the next day (after an overnight cycle) to be sure the points have adjusted correctly.

You might run into a problem if you use all cancelled, regular, and credit pool points in the use year and you want to use cancelled points from the next year in the year you ran out of. As for the 2,000 cancelled points. You should be able to borrow points from the following year to complete a reservation in the 2012 use year.
