Hello! Totally new to timeshares and getting a little overwhelmed and need some direction.
1) Where do you want your home resort to be?
Not sure really. Like the idea of Vegas as long as it's walking distance to the strip. Also like Boulder, CO or Chicago, IL if there are any in that area. But really just looking for something with the most flexibility.
2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?
I want to trade more than half the time I'm imagining.
3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
Vegas, Colorado (boulder area), Portland, Seattle, or Vancouver - also like the idea of traveling internationally like to Europe or Asia.
4) How many people do you usually travel with?
Just me and my husband
5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
Can travel anytime
6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
Maybe. Usually closer to 6 months is better.
7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
Yes
8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
Not too picky. Location is more important to me than quality of room.
9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
I don't want to go about $5,000. Ideally I'd like to find a good bargain deal on a timeshare.
10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
Is saying I'd like to keep it around $500 too unrealistic?
11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
Definitely... but to a point.
12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?

Essentially, I am trying to figure out what the best approach for buying a resale timeshare would be. I was looking at Marriott vacation club as I am a Marriott member and like the idea of converting it to points if I don't use it. I'm open to other suggestions though.
