Okay all you IE and Windows phobes, here's your chance to rant on the new Internet Explorer v8 and of course the Windows bashers here's a perfect opportunity to jump in.

For the other 90% of computer users who enjoy Windows and Internet Explorer, Google Internet Explorer 8 and download the latest revision.

Been using the new 8 & like it! Its got some new features I like & so far doing great but then again I'm always getting the new stuff! I like Firefox but I like Explorer a little better, I haven't loaded the beta for Firefox yet but will in good time. Just way tooooooooooo busy!

I read a report that said it had a few nice features, but it was slower in loading webpages than Firefox, Opera and Safari.

I also read a review that said it was a little slower but 'richer' than the competition (by a little). I'm staying with Firefox.

I like Firefox just fine and don't feel a need to learn 'new features'. Oh oh, there I go again being ornery and negative.

How do you know what IE version you have ... can't find the 'about' button on my Vista programs.

I am sticking with Firefox too. I did download IE8, since you need IE for some websites that use ActiveX, etc. I am sure the next version of Firefox will have some nifty features.

If you didn't download it yesterday, you should still have IE7.

Not necessarily. Many of us still use version 6.xxxx.

Of course, I rarely use IE.

I'll bet you have IE7.

Do you see the little question mark icon in IE? Click it. (It's all the way on the right on the toolbar in mine, to the right of "Page", "Safety" and "Tools".) That's where the old "help" menu items are.

If it (the little question mark icon) isn't visible, click on the two little right arrows at the right edge of the toolbar to see the hidden toolbar items.

Well, if you like using the quick reply button, you'll need to put tugbbs.com into compatibility view mode in IE8. hahaha.

Otherwise, the quick reply button behaves like the quote button.

I tried it twice and even reinstalled IE8 to make sure I didn't do something wierd the first time.

There's lots of little light blue arrows all over the place. Sure, it makes it easier to select a bunch of text and do something with it, but FF already has something similar, maybe not a direct link to a mapping function, which is nice, but you can certainly select some textr in FF and then right click and select "search with google" without needing to copy and paste it into a new broswer window.

I guess some people will like it, and maybe with more "accelerators" available, it might be more interesting.

Downloaded IE 8 today and so far no glitches. Seems easy to use.

I was going to give it a try, but then I read on there it only supports 32bit systems, not 64bit. Guess I will have to wait.

Or is it only because somehow one day the yahoo browser ended up on my explorer? I don't really remember doing that, but undoubtedly it attached itself to another program I installed. I could just get rid of that part of it, if it supported 64 bit without yahoo?

Thanks ... I do have IE7. They surely didn't make it easy to find these things, do they? I didn't have the question mark icon showing and never really 'saw' the >> before you suggested it.

I have AMD 64 on my laptop so assume my 'auto install' on Windows decided for me not to install IE8?

If I download IE8, will I retain by Favorites with IE7?

All your settings and favorites will be maintained. The revision will also add a few new favorites for you to delete later on.

It's not part of windows update yet.

I installed it on a 64-bit machine running 64-bit vista.

You may have installed the yahoo toolbar or something like that as part of installing another program. You can remove the yahoo toolbar and other yahoo add-ons in add/remove programs.

Or did it just change your home page? Hard to know from what you said

Whatever add-ons you have in your current version of IE will be carried forward to IE8 as well, so solve that problem first.

I have the yahoo toolbar right now. I suppose once I wasn't diligent enough in putting in another program and missed the doggone checked install yahoo box. It seems to be on everything anymore.

I just left it because I didn't really care.

So when you went with IE8 on a 64 bit system/Vista it still does ok? I had read on the Windows Support site that it wasn't released for 64 bit yet. Plus some of my programs apparantly won't run with it, like Turbo Tax!

At least that is what it said there. So I have been reluctant to try it now.

If you place the cursor on the toolbar and right click, you should be able to uncheck the Yahoo toolbar. This won't remove it, but at least you don't have the clutter.

Yeah, the yahoo toolbar install seems to be attached to everything these days, including java updates. It's very easy to uninstall. I installed the ask toolbar accidentally one time the same way. Both are very easy to uninstall.

Yeah, I just went to the download site and downloaded it and installed it. It installed both 32-bit and 64-bit versions without any interaction from me. roboform doesn't have a plug in for the 64-bit version, so I use the 32-bit version of IE. I tried the 64-bit version and it seems to work fine. I wasn't sure if it was going to give me both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, but it did, just like IE7 had both versions installed on this machine as shipped from the factory.

If roboform didn't work with it, I would have uninstalled it.

I have TT, but I haven't tried it with IE8 installed. I already filed this year. What doesn't work in TT with IE8? Where did you see that? I can try it to see if it's really true if I know what to try. The IE7 compatibility mode should, in theory, take care of any quirks.
