We own a BG and also a Marriot, but we are going on a Wyndham tour in the Smokey Mtns in a couple weeks.

Just so I am prepared, are they pushy and high pressure? Will they take no for an answer or will they continue to bring out person after person?

Also my letter says that they would put me up in the Govenors Inn or the Oaktree Lodge, or at least a 3 star hotel. When I called the other day, they told me I was going to be at the Days Inn. YUCK !

Has anyone taken this tour and gotten some hotel stays out of it? Where did you stay?

Sounds like a Getaway promotion.

Never been on one, but may do one or two next Spring, but you should expect pushy and pressure.

Could try why can you not match resale prices question when they get pushy, or time is up, goodbye, where do I get the gift.

But, never having refined the techniques they are only suggestions.

Wyndham = weasel speak

High pressure = 3 hrs of weasel speak

3 hours of weasel speak = 3 closers

the only marketing group worst than Wyndham => Wastegate
(whom dump me and the other nonbuyers off in an alley)

Hey, it is a 3 star Days Inn;)

We stayed at the Governors Inn, lots of high pressure, would never do that again!

This is what they will offer you;

They will offer you the points plan (remember --- BUY RESALE)
They will offer to "PIC" in your other RCI affiliated resorts into the Wyndam points system - Not worth it to you since you already own BG which has a lot of internal resorts.
Then they will offer you the Discovery Program to "Try it out" (remember --- BUY RESALE)

Stay firm, remember "No" is a complete sentence.

Whether or not its high pressure strongly depends on your salesperson. Sometimes I have had easy sales, other times difficult ones.

Enjoy your stay regardless!

The area itself is beautiful! Chances are you won't spend much time in your room anyway- there is so much to do there!

Plus- here's a local secret you might find interesting.....

If you can find a sheltered pool along one of the mtn streams- try fishing and using canned corn as bait! (I believe you can use a collapsible cane pole without obtaining a license if you don't have one..)...

It sounds kooky- but it really works.. An old-timer working at a cavern attraction gave my daughter the advice. I thought he was teasing her- but she tried it- and caught three fish to every one of mine..

Before you go to your sales pitch...

Go on Ebay and find a Wyndham Smoky Mtns...Like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/FAIRFIELD-POINT...ryZ15897QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Bookmark it and when it ends, print it (my guess is that it'll go for about 2K including closing costs) and take the print out with you....

When you get to the negotiation point tell them you want their best price on 154K points and if they can meet or beat the Ebay auction, you will buy (and offer to share the print-out with other guests). End of tour, have a nice day!!!!!

OH no!! I hate Westgate tours.

Only did one ONCE !! that was enough. They had my daughter in another building that I had no clue how to get to, and she was only 5 or 6 at the time. They were so high pressure and by the third salesperson and 2 hrs later, I just stood up and yelled, get me to my child NOW!. They quickly got my gift paperwork and out the door we went to get my child.

Never again will I do a Westgate tour.

I don't think I will share all this info with my husband or he will be miserable before we leave home. But I will be prepared. Not to worry.

As far as the Days Inn is concerned I am working on another place, I have done a lookup on several sites and it is only a 1 1/2 star and not good reviews. Face it, it is a Days Inn. They promised me at least a 3 star. I am going to try and call again and ask for the supevisor this time.

Wish me luck. I don't need super fancy, but I expect at least nice.

My Westgate tour, that ended in the alley in Las Vegas, was my only one, too. As I, travelling alone, was told to go to the trailer outside, for gifting. After waiting there for a short while, a H & W arrived - waiting too for gifting and transportation back to the LV Strip.

The 3 of us were taken by van to an alley behind the strip and were let out. It looked "like" the back of the building we had left from. We tried getting back into the building to walk thru to the street, as the long alley was scary even in daylight. After trying all the doors in two different loading docks and conning our way onto an freight elevator, we gave up. We had decided this was not the building/location we had been transported from and decided the only way OUT was the questionable escape down the alley.

I was very happy I was not alone, but your story is truly beyond being dumped in an alley. Hopefully, your child preceived the separation as play. And IMHO written complaints would not have been enough.

My various Wyndham "Owner Updates" over the years, while high pressured and relentless, are still a business transaction of make-nice (mostly). It is just you need an escape plan - mine has been to go to the ladies room with bowel discomfort (bad food) and then having to leave NOW due to personal reasons ...

Just be sure to have your sign in time at the receptionist written in INK - as I have been told by Wyndham employees - this is the "Start" of your "listen to our pitch for cheap vacation" minutes. I always go to the bathroom after I sign in, too. It is their time. Along with refilling the coffee cup with hotter coffee, etc. Oh, my, how the time has just flown by!

Are you sure you're touring a Wyndham? I signed up to do what was supposed to be presentation about a timeshare over there that I wanted to see), but by the time I got there, I had been "sold" to a different outfit which was a vacation club that sounded much too good to be true (and not only was the "club" pretty worthless, so are the "gifts.") At least the chocolate chip cookies, coffee, and lemonade were good, and the group presentation (no property tour) was kind of entertaining. The final offer got down to half of the starting price, but I was still firm in my NO.

Try renting and ditch the tour!

Seems like you are still pretty concerned- and may have to deal with a frustrated spouse after serving hard time on your tour.

Is the cost savings that great? A Wyndham rental isn't that much.. You'd be staying at the resort instead of the NoTell Motel.. And if you want the abuse- your message light will flash and the concierge will have some type of invitation for you...

Just a thought-

Do you have fairshare?

Hi
Did you buy your Wyndham from company or resale?
If resale do you have fairShare Plus?
Is it possible that some resale are FairShare Plus and some regular?
My wife and I are Worldmark owners and went through the sales at the Smoky Mountains this spring hoping to find out more about Fairfield and what the difference was between the two. I wanted to know if the two groups would ever merge and when. I was upset to see thier Big map of the properties accross the country and that some of my Worldmark places were listed on their map but at the same time I don't get to use their properties. They pretended to not know much about Worldmark even though we are both owned by Wyndham. I would like to own Fairfield but am not sure if buying resale will allow me to use only my home resort or all of them
thanks Kerry
