Theresa and geo, your photos are stunning but it makes me realize too that everyone represents a tragedy for the families left behind. :bawl: Memorial Day is a very special day and we should be so thankful to everyone who has served and died for our country. :bawl: :bawl:

Is that one the WWII memorial? I haven't been to DC since it opened and didn't realize it had water.
All of these are awesome. Thank you for posting.
We have a parade in our little town tomorrow. The paper reminds everyone to salute the flag as it passes by, which so many don't realize is still proper etiquette (and a privilege).

Thank you for sharing these photos and reminding us all that, if it were not for these many men and women, we wouldn't be a FREE nation.

I agree that the Viet Nam memorial is something to see...and I baby sat for one of those names on that one. I especially liked the Memorial for the Women who served...one a lady from our church, who was in the Army during WWII and the other for my niece, who has served in the US Navy.

WWII Memorial has many water features. It is hard for me to put in words how I feel about the memorials. I think I say it best by posting the photos.

Pearl Harbor

It was difficult to take all of the photos at Pearl Harbor thru the tears that would well up. Even posting the photos brought tears running down my cheeks.

I'm so glad you posted the Arizona photos. Next to the Vietnam Wall, this was the most moving experience of my life. I was trying to find mine when I saw that you had posted.

Mere words just aren't enough.

Two places I want to visit in my lifetime - Pearl Harbor and Normandy. Thank you for posting the Pearl Harbor pictures. I do wonder how the soldiers feel who man the memorial.

I've wondered about the sentries as well.

Pearl Harbor was a quiet experience for me. Normandy was quite emotional. I hadn't expected it but I found myself in tears and I couldn't stop. Row after row of crosses and stars of David set against the background of the sea, it was beautiful and heart-breaking.
