Sheraton Desert Oasis summer weeks for trading?

I was offered a Sheraton Desert Oasis worst season floating weeks 28-35 really cheap.

Do you think it makes any sense to use this one as a trader?

If you call Starwood to deposit a week into II, would you then get one of these hot summer weeks deposited or is here a chance to get another week (which is bad if you own platinum but could be good if you own the worst season)?

How would a summer week at SDO trade?

Thanks for your input!

High season at SDO is from Jan. - March. The summer, when the temps may reach 115 degrees is definitely low season.

Starwood does select the week you deposit with II, and yes they may deposit a summer week for you, however, you can always request a better week.

This recent thread has more details.

You might want to review the responses to your previous question on this topic as well.

Thanks, Denise!

I can not find the answer to the question I am asking in one of the threads you mentioned.

To phrase the question differently:

If I own summer weeks 28-35 at SDO, is there a chance that I get a better week (more like autumn or even spring) deposited with II? By luck or could I request to have deposited a better season week?

Thanks!

They can choose any week. So, yes it is possible, but I certainly would not count on it. Why should they?

SDO usually floats 1-52 so you can have any week you request. If you have a rare "true" Starwood week (bought after 2000 from Starwood directly), you would be at the mercy of Starwood as to what week they deposit. It would either be one from your resort or possibly even from another resort (but I think it would be a low season). Which type do you have? That's the key...

It it's deeded to an actual summer week and it is NOT the 1-52, I would definitely not buy it or even assume the Maintenance Fees for it. Nothing is worse than summer in the desert for trading. :)

I know u r getting a lot of different answers here but if the 'actual' season is 28-35 - which I believe it could be as Starwood sold these with different seasons (many of the resales u see around are the 1-52 float) then u r only entitled to reserve and deposit what you own...
HOWEVER , in this case, calling and asking Starwood to deposit for you could be a good thing as u would PROBABLY end up with something better then week 28-35 in the desert.....LOL :cheer: !

That said, there is a definite trading difference even among Starwood resorts - so a summer dessert week is not going trade nearly as well as a summer Myrtle Beach week or a winter Arizona week.....if it were me,, I would pass on this ownership, even for free.

Thanks for all the answers so fast!

Yes, it is real summer week only floating weeks 28-35 that was sold by Starwood, NOT a 1-52.

That is why it is cheap....

There is no definitive answer to this question, because it is all up to Starwood. You can request a better week, but that doesn't mean you will get it. If you own a summer week, Starwood may not be inclined to give you a better week.

So the answer is definitely maybe! :D

Well, if it's really cheap (i.e. almost free), and you're willing to take a chance on trades, you could give it a try as it would still have the 3 day Starwood advantage. However, you can pick up a 1-52 float rather cheaply as well, so I'd be inclined to go that route.

Good point, Glorian...

Abdibile - have you seen the list of recent ebay auctions at the top of the board. There are several SDO units listed, for comparison porposes.
