I posted a sighting this morning for a bunch of WKORV-N units for November of this coming year. I didn't know if any of you might try to snag any of them before they are released to the rest of II.

A one bedroom could snag you a two bedroom in Hawaii!

Thanks. How did you see them? I didn't think SVN had a website that showed availability.

They are on II - Starwood owners have a 72 hour window when Starwood properties are first posted on II, when only Starwood owners can see them listed.

From the II article posted at the top of the board:

Starwood 72 hour Exclusive:

For the first three days of a Starwood owners deposit, its availability is masked from the rest of the Interval International membership. Only a Starwood owner has visibility to another owners deposit. It may be selected without contention from the rest of the timeshare world. If unclaimed within 72 hours, it is made available. to the I.I. general membership. If a Pending Request is active for one of these deposits, it will be filled without it ever seeing daylight. The deposited week must otherwise be of "comparable value" for this to occur. One cannot expect a Silver Season studio to pull a 2 bedroom Platinum Season.

I saw them on II website using my Kierland to search. I posted the days and availablity here on tug, under the sightings and distress forum. link

Let me get this straight. Say I wanted to travel to Maui next fall (11/09) and take some friends. I could reserve the studio side of my 2 bdrm at the 12 month mark to preserve my view (ocean front). I could then exchange the one bdrm side into II to (probably) trade for a 2 bdrm villa with a good chance that my friends would have a decent view because it's at the north property.

Is this correct?

Yup, but depends on what Starwood puts into your II account. I used the small side of a gold week, at Kierland and got a two bedroom at WKOR. This kind of plays into what Fred keeps posting about. The only way this is possible is because of the 72 hour, Starwood prefernce period in II. The only thing you don't know is when Starwood will make a deposit again.

This article posted in the Owner Resources sticky, has all the details about exchanging with II.

However, depositing a valuable OF unit to exchange is a painful thought! You would be much better off buying a cheapo at any Starwood resort to use for exchanging. Your ocean front unit would rent for big bucks. Remember - it doesn't matter if you are resale or mandatory, with a II exchange!

Also - what if you deposit it and then you can't get the exchange you want? - now that would really hurt! That happened to me the first (and last) time I deposited my WKORV unit - NEVER again! Even though we deposited a year in advance, we couldn't get ANY exchange for the week we needed and we essentially lost the week we deposited!
