I put in a bid on one of their auctions, and it never met the reserve and now they are offering me a second chance Offer, it seems like a really good deal and they have good feedback. They use a closing company called http://www.timeshareclosingservices.com/.

Although not the highest rated low-cost timeshare closing company, Timeshare Closing Services has been used successfully by many here, including me. The main complaint is that they are a bit slower than some others.

Be sure to contact the seller through your eBay account - not by responding to the e-mail you received - to verify that the seller, rather than a scam artist, is the one making a second chance offer. Also be sure that you send your money directly to Timeshare Closing Services, not through some other account.

Just make sure the second chance is really from them. Email them through ebay to make sure.( just as Dave stated!)

I used him, although I believe a different person is now running this operation. I had good closure, in fact my closing fees were returned to me because of a slight error.

Good luck!

Laman34 and eBay sellers like him are associated with 'postcard companies,' those companies that send owners a postcard saying they will make an offer on their TS. The offer is you pay us $3500 and you'll be free of the TS. Laman34 gets his inventory from these guys for nothing. laman34 has nothing invested in the TS he is selling except the spectre of upcoming maintenance fees. Every penny he gets from the second chance offer is pure profit, the inflated closing costs probably has kickback factored in. Oh yeah, when that poor original TS owner gave up their TS for -$3500 they also had to have paid current year MFs, so when Laman34 collect MFs at the end of the sale, that's pure profit, too!

Other than that, you'll probably get exactly what you want from the sale.

I purchased my points from them. Other than a couple questionable or misleading statements in their ad (e.g. "Free points left over" when actually they were the points for the current use year) they delivered what I thought I was purchasing. They did seem pretty willing to help once the process finally got started, but they basically stuck to a technicallity to screw me out of the "leftover" points.

TSC was slow closing. Purchased in Oct, didn't get deed until Jan and didn't get points account transferred until April.

The ebay ID is not really an individual person, but rather VIN (Vacation Innovation Network or something). I dealt with two different people there through closing and neither was the guy Mario listed on the ebay profile. In fact, Mario ignored half a dozen emails sent to the email address he listed on the auction and ignored a few voicemails left on his VM before someone else at VIN finally contacted me like a week after the auction had ended.

Just be observant (I wasn't observant enough being a 1st timer) of exactly what they're advertising. In other situations I probably wouldn't recommend a company like this, but I've heard horror stories about other sellers so I would say this operation might be the lesser of many evils.

Be extremely careful and do as much upfront investigation with this group. I purchased my first points package from them and they got more wrong than right on the ad. Since I did not own at the resort, I could not get the resort to communicate if the facts were right. I made a leap of faith and landed right on my backside.

Not only were the usage weeks completely wrong but the MF was quoted at 50% of the value. The MF's hadn't been paid for the prior year.

I went back at them extremely PO"d and they ended up buying it back but has taken almost 8 months. Meanwhile, I am still getting notices from the resort that its still in my name.

WATCH YOUR STEP is all I can say.

Good luck and I hope yours is better than was mine.

Bill

Bill's experience is a good lesson.

It's not a good idea to make a resale purchase unless you can get the owner's authorization to contact the resort or do a three-way call to the resort with the owner. Important issues include info on amount and status of MFs, which week or what points are owned, whether the week is fixed or floating, what the unit configuration and location (e.g., 2BR oceanfront) are, whether current year's week is available, amount of the resort's transfer fee, etc.

See this TUG timeshare purchaser's checklist for other questions to consider asking someone.

Laman 34 was the seller on this post link which talked about an ad which had alot of problems also. BUT when I emailed them they fixed the ad right away.

Laman34 auctions may not all be problem-free, but they are honest. So they will fix anything that's fixable, and if that fails you'll get a refund.

Thanks for all the responses, I will be careful and make sure everything is in order and proceeding as planned, it is a worldmark membership so I contacted them already about how to proceed, I just need to get the account number to verify everything.

I bought from him last year and everything went quite smoothly. I was aware that several Tugger's had concerns, but the Mario guy was very responsive and the Timeshare Closing Services was the best closing that I've ever had. They communicated exceptionally well through-out the process.

To date,I've bought three units from laman. The closing has been faster thah I had anticipated with a copy of my new deed usually within 1-2 months. Haven't had any problems. I'd recommend him and also Timeshare Closing Servces with the caveats mentioned by other posters. Best of luck with your new purchase-
Brian

Aren't laman34 and 43namal from the same company, or maybe the same person?

Marty

I looks like 43namal is laman34 backwards - sounds like the same person to me....:

I'll be darned!

I bought from 43namal and the salesman came back as Mike Saylor. I belive too these are ebay acounts for the parent company of TimeShare Closings (VI network) as they have the same physical address and I've seen different names posted for the same account here.

My little ebay purchased closed in under 2 months and was zero trouble.

I've purchased 2 from Marijo (one in process now) and also had zero trouble. My Hawaii purchase was expected to take a bit since Hawaii sometimes takes awhile to record it, but they warned me and guess what? It went fast and without a hitch. This one is going quickly also, they have followed up on every detail and helped me out a LOT in trying to change a use week.

However I purchased from another e-bay seller, they never paid the taxes as required (CA property), it has been over 7 months since this all started- they were supposed to refund some of my costs due to their errors and other problems AND pay the taxes, but so far nothing.

My point in telling you about my bad experience was just to show why I was happy it went smoothly with the seller you are talking about. YES make sure it is them who are offering this "second chance" offer. I believe there are a few different people selling from what is essentially the same company, hence the different user names and maybe different names on emails.

All I can give you is feedback on my own experiences with them.

laman34

I too have purchased from him and everything has gone well, if something was in error it was corrected or my money promptly refunded. As a side note
everyone keeps talking about postcard companies and how terrible they are,
but I just noticed that TUG now has a deal with Holiday Group, does anyone
have "actual" knowledge of where they get their inventory?

My understanding is that most of their inventory is 'trade-ins' where a/some resort(s) in Mexico take your current TS in trade when you buy their product.

 I have wondered about this myself! I know I watch the site and it seems that they only have the low end resorts to offer!

You find some nice resorts then see what they have for sale is the older units in these resorts and away from the ocean or pool area and many one bedroom one bathrooms, studio's. Being owner in Lake Tahoe I watch this area also and its the same lower units available!

I really watch Maui area and they have like one choice there. I think they can get people to buy (new buyers) because they show nice pictures and will finance. Also seems to only have condo's that deal with Rci so in many cases these are lower end resorts or units!:crash:

Holiday in our timeshare world these days does seem to be much better than these scammer companies and good for first time buyers who don't buy first condo like most of did from the resort sales!

Trade-ins

So I guess if a resort shafts "little old ladies" on a trade in, takes more money yet, and then turns it over to Holiday to sell, that's not a bad thing because Holiday is just doing a job. How many people out there have bought foreclosure homes? Someone got kicked out of there house, maybe to become homeless, and we are right there for a deal. So I guess my bottom line is if you don't know how it came to be, why pass judgment, or as the old saying goes, "ye who are without sin, cast the first stone"

So far they have been very responsive to any of my requests, they contacted worldmark for me so I could verify the account information. So far I am happy :cheer:
