Over the past year, I have seen numerous posts regarding failed attempts to use Instant Exchange within the 45-day window.

There are several examples right here in the Ask RCI forum, like here, here, here, and here.

To your credit, you have been clear and consistent in your replies, stating that there are no restrictions (other than VEP) on Instant Exchange. Simple enough for most of us.

Unfortunately, many RCI Guides are misinformed. In some cases, even the on-duty supervisors are apparently unaware of the 9K point maximum on Instant Exchange. Meanwhile, members are missing exchange opportunities.

Why are so many Guides misinformed about the 9K point maximum on Instant Exchange?

What should a member do when faced with this situation? Obviously, sending an email to "feedback" is not going to provide a timely resolution.

Pit,

Some of the threads you pointed out relate to web issues we've been having with Instant Exchange searches in the points site. Those are still not entirely resolved.

However, I am truly shocked to hear that our Points staff members are not familar with this program. It is very basic to the training they all receive and it is a standard element of our program. A Guide would not likely make it through a single day without having a conversation about Instant Exchange availability.

If you encounter a Guide (or supervisor??) who does not seem familiar with discounted Instant Exchange values, please send a message to feedback@rci.com with TUG in the subject line. We would very much like to track down the Guide to provide additional training.

Thanks for clarifying that information for us. I am glad to know that the policy for 45-day exchanges at that reduced points amount has not changed. You are such a gem, Madge, and we are lucky to have you here on TUG! :)

Instant Vacations

As a newbie who still does not even have any RCI passwords yet, and from what I had been reading, I was really worried that the Instant Vacations were going away. I feel better after reading the past few notes, especially the one from Madge. Thank you.

Madge, when it comes to supervisors and guides in Australia, should I be emailing feedback the names or is there someone in Australia I can speak to. I have spoken to a number of supervisors who all tell me the same thing and I feel like I've hit a brick wall over here.

Thanks again!

Why can't RCI send a company wide email to all employees to clarify this and any other issues that seem to repeat over and over. It seems clear that there is a serious "training" issue here. If this is a basic part of the program how are so many missing it????

Madge, this would be a great solution as to be honest, I'm a bit tired of it and am very concerned that my points will expire in July before I can get the guides to let me use them. It is quite difficult for me to find a week available the same time as we can travel and both times, I have been wrongly denied an instant exchange.

By the way, I did email feedback the same day as I posted on Ask RCI but it's not really an immediate solution to such an issue when time is of the essence.

Thank you.

JamminJoe,

I can get something sent around to be sure that all of our staff are on the same page. I'm still just astonished that anyone working within the Points system would not know about Instant Exchange.

Madge, can I just make sure that I understand this correctly :

A weeks resort with last minute availability should be available for 9000 or less points, unless - VEP is too low or even one unit is converted to points (in which case the standard grid would apply.)

Is this accurate?
Thanks.

Please email Australian Points guides and supervisors as well.

Thank you.

Thanks Madge, I just think sometimes it the problem is as widespread as this and a few others seem to be it would be good to get something definitive sent to all RCI employees because from the amount of feedback it does clearly see to be an issue. Thanks for all your help and being a part of his group, your invaluable here and we are very lucky to have you.

happymum,

You are correct. There are no other restrictions that I know of on the Instant Exchange inventory for Points members.

JamminJoe,

Communication is always a good thing to work on -- and the job never really gets done. Much like painting the Golden Gate Bridge: when you get to the end, it's time to begin again! ;)
