Any one have an update or feelings about Sheraton"s Broadway Plantation? good place or bad?

Not a bad resort, but 5 or 6 blocks from the ocean. If I am going to a beach resort, I want to stay at the beach.

Hi Steel5Rings,

We stayed at Broadway Plantations this past summer. We had a very nice time; it's a very nice resort.

A couple of things though.

The pool area, even though it has been expanded with a second pool and a lazy man river, seemed too small for us. Not because we are big people :), but because it was very crowded. One could always find a pool chair, that wasn't the problem. The issue was the pools themselves: too small for all of the people using them. It was hard not to bump into other people.

Broadway Plantations is in the midst of a very large expansion, and according to the plans that are posted in the lobby, the pool area is as big as it's going to get. I think 7 or 8 more buildings are planned, and I can't imagine how this one pool area is going to handle all that traffic. Now, I didn't ask about any future pool plans, but the map showed just the one area, so I have to assume what you see is what you get. I could be wrong, though.

The reason the pool area is so important is that you have to drive to get to a beach. Added to that, the surf at Myrtle Beach is very strong. So, if you have small kids, want to stay close to your unit, you want the pool. And so does everyone else, it turns out.

Another issue for us was the bar area. Believe it or not, the bar (which serves food) closes at about 6pm. And on Sundays, it does not serve alcohol. I'll repeat that. The bar does NOT serve alcohol on Sundays.
We're not heavy drinkers by any stretch. But, on the Friday we arrived, after ten hours on the road, all we wanted to do was stretch out at the pool, tropical drink in hand, maybe some burgers, and relax. Only to find the bar/restaurant closed an hour before!! Sunday morning, we thought a refreshing mimosa would be nice poolside. Wrong again. Bar/restaurant open, no spirits.

The pool bar area is the resort's only option for food. The gift shop in the lobby is tiny, so there isn't even the option of picking up something there to bring back to the unit to heat up. When the bar/restaurant is closed, one must get in the car and go somewhere else. Obviously, we didn't know this before hand.

On the positive side. The resort staff was very, very friendly. The grounds are beautiful. And, in my opinion, will only get nicer as the resort grows. Right now there's no escaping the construction, but once it is done, I'm sure BP will be beautiful. The resort reminds me of a small Vistana Resort. The buildings (which are all very nice) are similar in style to Vistana Resort. The grounds are very nice to walk around. The ponds are populated with ducks, fish, turtles. There's a cute little (free) mini golf area. There also are some tennis courts. The lobby is small, but very nicely decorated, with a large fireplace. The concierge desk is very helpful. There is no internet access in the rooms. But there is wifi in the lobby. There's one computer in the lobby, but you have to wait your turn. Many people (including us) just brought the laptop to the lobby (which is right next to the pool) and accessed the internet that way.

As noted above, Sheraton Broadway Plantation is not located on the ocean.
That wasn't a big issue for us. Getting to the beach took all of five minutes.
BP IS located next to the Broadway on the Beach complex. On Tuesday nights, we could clearly see the fireworks from our room.

One other thing you should know about, if you go to the public beach areas, there are no bathroom facilities. You'll find those at the State Beach, which is about a 20 minute drive away. You will pay a fee to use that beach.
We did both (public and State), and enjoyed both very much.

We also did the owners update. And we discovered, much to our surprise, that the developer price for Broadway Plantation is the same as Vistana Villages in Orlando. Be aware though, the BP is non-mandatory, meaning, if you buy on the resale market, you do not get Star Options, which allow you to use the SVO system. You'll only get those at BP by buying from Starwood directly. If you do that, disregard the bargain basement prices you see on Ebay. I think that, more than the beach issue, is why BP is so affordable on Ebay and elsewhere.

Bottom line, we enjoyed our time at Myrtle Beach at Broadway Plantation.
We wish the pool and bar situation was different, but it is still a nice place to visit and vacation.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Just stayed there for a week

Hi Steel5Rings,
We just got back last night from a week at Broadway Plantation. My brother owns a 2 Br lockout, but got a 2 BR this time in a different (earlier) season. (This was an unusual thing. Not the typical assignment of room.)

The main pool was being renovated. It was closed while we were there. Yes, it does seem a bit small for the people. The units are about a mile from the beach inland.

When my brother bought it, it was Embassy Broadway Plantation. The purchase included the beach club at the Crown Reef hotel and free shuttle service to-and-from the beach club. There was an outdoor pool, shower facilities, hot tub, and umbrellas/chairs there for club users. That club contract was terminated at some point, probably when Sheraton bought the property up. The beach club is now used by the South Beach Resort timeshare (Fairfield).

The units are really pretty and probably some of the most spacious ones of any Myrtle Beach timeshare. Harbor Lights had some very nice units on the ICW (InterCoastal Waterway), but Bluegreen (the resort management company) properties don't seem to age well.

We checked in very late on Saturday night. My sister-in-law requested non-smoking. They checked us into a unit that wasn't non-smoking. I've been in bars that were less reeky than that. To give you an idea, we opened up every window in the place, and when a couple of us were walking back to the unit from outside, well, we could smell the cigarette smoke 25 feet before we reached the unit. The night manager did not respond to pages. Housekeeping had gone home. Maintenance was going home and they couldn't bring over the ionizer to help clear the air in there. We could not be moved to another unit.

The next morning around 8 am, my sister-in-law went over and probably breathed fire all over the manager. We were instantly moved to a non-smoking unit in another building. It had clean air. (Since it was available at 8am before the check-out time, we knew that it had been there the night before if the manager had just answered pages.)

I mention this because other than that night, it seemed like management was really responsive to our needs. The beds were comfortable. The TV and DVD player worked well for the kids. The kitchen was great and the few things missing were replaced when we called.

The grounds are really lovely and well-kept. They are still selling these units, so I don't know what it will be like when they are done selling.
