OLCC - Highway

Hi everyone,

I'm new here!

I'm from the UK and own 2 weeks at OLCC. When I was last there in 2004 they were building a highway through the middle of the resort, and I think they said it would provide faster access to Disney World from OLCC. Does anyone know anything about this? Is that information correct and is the highway finished yet?

The Western Beltway is done going through the resort but I don't believe that the complete road to I-4 has been completed yet. I'm sure somebody more familiar with this will correct me on this if I'm wrong.

As far as making it quicker to Disney, I'm not sure that is the case but it is easier and does avoid traffic lights. The reason I don't necessarily think it's quicker is because you have to travel north for a while, then when you get on Disney's Western Way, you travel southeast and end up on the north side of the Animal Kingdom before you come to the road to head toward the parks. The key is how far north do you have to travel and then backtrack when traveling southeast. I wish when it headed north, on Disney property it would have headed towards the Magic Kingdom. Unquestionably it is easier, I would use this route but as it is now, I'm uncertain whether it is faster.

I think, even with the traffic light, the quickest way most of the time may be to use the East Orange Lake exit, take the left on 192 (heading east), continue to the first stop light (Black Lake Road), take a left, follow Black Lake Road until you come to a stop sign, turn left (onto Sherberth Road), and continue on Sherberth Road until you hit a stop light (used to be a stop sign) and turn right. You are on Disney property. If you had turned left, you would have entered the Animal Kingdom Lodge. You are now on the south side of the Animal Kingdom. If you keep going straight, take the first exit to the right and at the stopsign at the end of the exit ramp, take a left. About 1 mile up is the exit/entrance from/to the Western Way. The only thing that may make the Black Lake/Sherbeth Road method slower is that timing of the stoplights - and they can be long. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. Is the new highway accessible from OL property? If not how far away is the nearest entry point?

You have to exit Orange Lake. The quickest would be to use the East Orange Lake exit, take a right, at the entrance (first stoplight) to the beltway, take a right. The reason for this being faster is that if there is no traffic coming on 192, you can take a right on the red after you stop and you can take the right to the beltway. If you exit the main entrance, take a left on 192, go to the second stop light (past the overpass), take a left, and wait until the light turns before you can get on the beltway. Both are easy but I think the East Orange Lake route is quicker and simplier.

So, would directions from Summer Bay Houses be similar?

I will add that if traffic lights "set you off", that happens to be one of DH pet peaves. The beltway does get rid of that. And I'm still alittle confused about this other road Disney is building that's not ready yet. Supossedly it's better than the current way in off the beltway.

When I'm back in a few weeks, hopefully I can get better clarification on that.

Actually, no, since you can't exit Summer Bay using East Orange Lake Blvd. When you do that you hang a right to get on the tollroad.

From Summer Bay you need to go east (left) on 192. The new tollroad interchange will be just passed the main entrance to Orange Lake.

The point of this thread seems to be that if you just continue east on 192, to the Disney exit, that is faster. It would depend on the time of day, whether you are going with the flow or not.

Oh no way. Don't even take Hwy 192 east to the Disney loop!
Well...unless you are going during late Sept, Oct, early Nov and or some of the early winter and late spring weeks, and you just have a fondess for sitting at traffic lights.

Our preferred time to go to Orlando is during the above times, because the crowds are sooooo small compared to the times when schools are not in session. And we still always use the alternate routes.

The now not so "secret" way in, or the new toll road are by far the better choices than taking the Hwy 192 route.

We're pixie guru's and I can't imagine once you knew these other ways in, anyone would want to take Hwy 192 all the way to the disney loop from Orange Lake and/or further west.

Well.......unless you have a particular fondness for stop lights and freaked out looking pedestrians trying to run across 6 lanes of traffic.

JLB;

The question was if the directions would be similar for Summer Bay and it is similar. Obviously since they aren't in Orange Lake, the East Orange Lake Blvd doesn't apply but the route past the Western Beltway overpass to Black Lake Road is the same on 192 and the entry point to getting on the Western Beltway is the same as if those in Orange Lake who exit using Orange Lake Blvd where they have to take a left at the stoplight, go under the overpass, and at the stoplight after the overpass, take a left to get on Western Beltway or continue on to Black Lake Road if they wish to use that entrance. Of course, you could always drive to the Disney exit on 192 and get on World Drive at WDW. The key was whether the direction was similar. They are similar but they are not exactly the same. I probably should have put more details in my answer as I went on the assumption that they knew where the overpass was and thus new stopslights associated with the overpass and would use them as a reference (they probably wouldn't know the name of the roads that enter/exit Orange Lake).

If you get lucky and get to hit all the lights green, the Disney entry is reasonably fast but the odds are that you will hit a red light or two or three or four. I don't think the wait is too bad for going straight when you have a red light on 192 but the turn left lights can take some time and the entry lights onto 192 can take some time.

Easy Boy. :D

My post was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, as I assumed everyone would realize you could not use East Orange Lake Blvd to get on 192 from Summer Bay.

My primary point was that it would be a left out of Summer Bay, rather than a right (just like it would be a left out of the main-west-Orange Lake entrance) and then a bit of a distance.

I also conditioned my statement about using the Disney entrance off of 192 by saying, "It would depend on the time of day, whether you are going with the flow or not," similar to your comments.

Then, so everyone will know the best route, how do you go from OL to Disney?

Never mind, I see it now. I guess I lost my ability to read while I was on vacation!

$1.00, use the toolway and avoid the traffic lights on 192.

OLCC - Highway - Toll Road

We rode on the new Toll Road tonight - passing Orange Lake on our right.
Took the first exit (exit # 8) after paying the $1.00 toll at the toll booth.
Took Photos of the Disney Entrance Sign - Donald Duck - Minnie - Mickey

Re: OLCC - Highway - Toll Road

yes that's the one, Marti. We also take the BlackLake/Sherberth Rd route. It just depends on what part of Disney your heading too, as to which route is the preferred one.

We also took the toll road while there in June. I'm still waiting on the info for some supposed road disney is building that will make the toll road route......THE route to take.

We never take the straight Hwy 192 to the disney loop. There's just way to many intersections. It's bad enough when we have to do that as far as dining out along 192 ( but for some of those fab restaurants, I manage to suffer thru it ;). And traveling into Orlando for some "power shopping at the millenium mall is a no brainer.

The Western Beltway (toll road) is highway 429. It can be picked up on the Florida Turnpike to Highway 192. The entrance/exit is open into WDW. The leg from 192 to I-4 south is still under construction and I am not sure if it is open for traffic. The toll on the open leg is (as already reported) $1.00.
