Catchy title, eh? Ok, sorry about that...

In a few weeks, my wife and daughter are planning a trip to South Carolina to visit a friend for a birthday. Long story short, they want to stay at Myrtle Beach for a few days. Sadly, although we found the perfect availability, we were completely 100% unable to book it.

Why, you ask?

There were units available for 2 days, but none for 3. For 2 days, you have to go with open season -- but must be the club member. Since it's my name on the membership and not my wife's, that wasn't allowed. We offered to pay with club points, as we haven't used any this year, but to do so, you must book for at least 3 nights.

What the....??? Seriously? As a member with points, there's no way we can use any of the available units? Because....rules.

Thoughts? I searched, but didn't find anything on this topic -- is this a known loophole (errr...anti-loophole)? Anyone else been caught on this before? Is there no way to make this work?

Thanks in advance for any advice...

postscript: We actually found the availability at the Anderson Beach Club, not Ocean 22.. but what kind a pun does 'Anderson' make? A lousy one, I'll tell ya.

If your wife is on the deed, you can probably call to have her name added to the membership. Otherwise, you would need to go through the process of adding her name to the deed.

If she isn't on the deed, she isn't a owner and you are probably stuck.

Seriously, dude, why isn't your DW's name on your deed/account?
A joint deed/account would allow her to check-in w/o you (don't you trust her?).

Also, a joint deed/account would allow her to take title w/o going thru probate
... when you die (or will that give her motive?) -- Whatever floats your boat.

One advantage of a joint account: Everything _she_ charges with the HHonors CC
goes on our joint-HHonors account, which inures to _my_ benefit. -- Food for thought.

+1, +2 and +3

I've had the wife, and friends, and parents (with different names) all check-in without me at various times. The resort won't care. They can just say "Mr. Gone Flying" is going to be here later, he got stuck at the office. I'd say if your wife has your same last name it would never be a problem. And if she doesn't then you've still got a great chance that it will work. Nobody really cares. Perhaps the front desk would call you to verify you were "on your way" and it was OK for them to check-in before you got there.

And, yes, 2 nights for cash, 3 for points. You win some you lose some.

They may be able to BS their way past a lowly clerk, but one day (it could be the next), you could well encounter an Assistant Manager who says: "Your name's not on the reservation. Sorry. Rules are rules. Your can wait in the lounge until he gets here." OR "How did you get past the security gate?"
.
.

Book the reservation and then call and add your wife and/or your daughter to your membership?

Do you mean reservation?

AFAIK, you can't simply ask to add peep to an account. You have to record a new deed.

Workaround <note: I don't condone fraud>:
Have their friend find a guy who's willing to pretend he's the OP. Drive up to the lobby with him the car. Give him the OP's CC to check-in (also have the OP's ID available, if needed). Be sure to get the CC+ID back.
