I do get a fair amount of spam, and have been "unscribing" from them every day. The number may be dwindling, but not by much. There seems to be two or three main culprits, and their spam does give and addy that you can write to to be removed from their list.

My questions :
Has anyone written to any of them?
Did you actually stop receiving spam from them?

As an aside, I unsubscribed from one today and got an error:

"This email has already been unsubscribed"...:shrug::wall:

I get lots of junk emails too. It seems when I unsubscribe from one I get a bunch of new ones so I'm kind of leery of unsubscribing.

Ditto .. sometimes I feel II or RCI, Hilton are selling e-mails address's.

I would not un-subscribe, unless the email is from a major company that you know is legitimate.

If it's really a spammer, all you are doing is letting them know that they have reached a legitimate email address, that they can sell to others, generating a lot more spam.

A better option is to use the tools available from your browser to block further emails from that email address.

I've started blocking all spam/junk emails. It's really interesting looking closely at the addresses from which they come. One was for some kind of pain reliever and had this address: NervePainSolution at poolheatersreviewer.com That last part isn't even a real website.

Now I'm wondering what happens if someone actually responds to these dubious offers/businesses. Is it just a total scam to get someone's credit card info or what?

Gmail has an excellent spam filter. I rarely get spam, and I rarely have a legitimate email blocked by the filter. If you ever have to change email addresses, Gmail is a great choice.

I'd never unsubscribe unless it's a place I where know I've done business. When something does get through Gmail's spam filter, I try to flag as spam right away on Gmail's site. If people do this all the time, it limits the number of destinations reached by the spammer.

Thanx all. I should mention that I don't unsubscribe from all junk like those from Nigeria, or those offering little blue pills ~ Ron :p

update

Well folks, I sent letters to the two most prolific spammers, and IT WORKED!! :whoopie: The letters were sent several days after I started this thread, and it's been several days since I have received any spam from either company, and I was getting 15 to 20 a day from each at one point. Both companies stated in their adds that they were "CAN-SPAM compliant".

I've had a noticeable lack of spam lately, too .:whoopie: I've blocked the addresses of all spam I have received and have identified them as spam so that the spam filter can maybe catch them in the future.

spam always reminds me of my grandmother, who had a small town newspaper delivered to her farm daily. Asked why she pays for a paper she never reads, she explained that this is how she knows the mailman came.

If it weren't for spam, I wouldn't know if my email client is broken :whoopie:
