Is there anything I should do beforehand?

I'm planning on phoning on Wednesday/Thursday to make sure our name is now showing up on their reservation system.

It was arranged through SFX so I have only SFX confirmation?

I see threads where people call in to state their preferences but I'm not sure this applies to the category we have, its probably a already a specific unit. 2br Penthouse.

Thanks in advance

This is my first stay at HGVC property

Holy cow, you're staying in a 2BR Penthouse that you traded through SFX?

You are a lucky man -- that's a great trade. I would call anytime and make a unit request (I suggest you ask for the Diamond Head side). You will have a spectacular view no matter where you are.

When do you arrive? We will be at HHV Feb 14 - Feb 21st, if we overlap, please send me a PM.

Best,

Greg

He is a very lucky man.
However it's my understanding that Grand Waikikian Penthouse units were sold as fixed weeks in a fixed room #s.

So what happens is SFX contacts the HGVC owner who deposited that jewel, requests the owner contact HGVC and get a guest certificate in your name. SFX provides that to you, THEN you can call in with requests because your name is on the reservation.

That's what happens when I deposit a week with them.

I'm just going to dash off my 2015 trade request for a GW Penthouse unit to get around the points premium. :)

we're there the week after you GregT.

Sounds like all I have to worry about now is whether they actually have our name on the res. SFX said it would be there by 72 hours before check-in.

I also got a match through SFX for 2 bedroom penthouse unit in first week of August. Not as a trade but $1500 cash. Worth it to me!

We're Back :)

Had unit 3507, 2 Bedroom Penthouse (next to penthouse lounge) - convenient to the breakfast and appies at night, also decent view of Friday night fireworks which we enjoyed from the balcony.

info if you haven't stayed in one
we checked in briefly at the main check-in although apparently were supposed to head up to the penthouse lounge and check-in there. this is also where you check-out.

highlights of the ph unit
very nice unit, 2x day maid service, continental breakfast in morning 8 to 10 - i think, appies & beverage 5pm to 7 in the evening.

we did the self park $27 a day option, however when we had people visiting us we had them park in the marina - 2 minute walk into the gw - $1 per hour in the evening i think, i think there's some sort of early bird rate $5.

as we expected gw is busy, only needed key card to get into paradise pool

we're not really waikiki people so much preferred ko olina area (bouncing between two areas this trip) if only we could have the ph at the marriott location - would be perfect  we're glad we got to stay at the gw though for comparison purposes

One can only ask what you exchanged to get that?

Last Summer I deposited a whistler week in SFX (which I was wondering how the heck I was going to use it up), they took that plus $799 (once I factored out that on any exchange I would pay 199+100 or 200 unit upgrade fee it seemed like a steal.

Ocean,

Any chance that you took some pictures of the unit and the view? If so, I'd love to see them.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay (and that's a great trade).

Best,

Greg

Thank you so much for the report. When I was at GW (standard room) last year and I saw that they had a penthouse lounge floor, I was dying to know more about it. This sounds like exactly what I'd enjoy using my HGVC for. I hope a commoner like me can get a reservation sometime. :p

Is the penthouse lounge the same area where you can hang out before heading to the airport?

No,

I think that's on the third or eighth floor - can't remember which one that is. Penthouse Lounge is on the 35th, basically they have an attendant there to answer questions etc... plus I think they might act as a concierge, although I'm not sure about that - there's a lot of concierges on 2.

You (if you're registered in ph) can also pop in there during their office hours which seems to be 8am to 7pm for juice, coffee, the fruit bowl :) Newpapers, computer with printer etc....

We should have lots of pics, before we "enter and takeover a room" we have to wait in the hall while hubby takes pics of the room ............................ I'll post them when he processes them :)

Is it possible take you can take and post some photos of the villas and the resort. You are so lucky to be at this resort. It is only 21 degrees in Virginia. Thanks !
