Why Are Chocolate Easter Bunnies Hollow?

I used to work with a guy who used chocolate Easter bunnies as a way to describe peoples' character. The ones you could trust to be honest, fair and ethical were "solid chocolate Easter bunnies." The people to watch out for, who were likely to say one thing to your face and then undermine you behind your back, were "hollow chocolate Easter bunnies.".

I thought it was a really apt metaphor and was honored that he considered me "solid."

There are mammals who lay eggs. The duck-billed platypus and the Easter Bunny, for example. You know ordinary rabbits do not lay eggs, right???

I always felt ripped off when getting a hollow bunny at easter. Hardly nothing to them. I much preferred the solid bunnies. I knew if it was in a box, it was going to be hollow, but if the bunny was in a bag, it was solid.:)

I remember getting a big, solid milk chocolate bunny, and it sure was a pain to eat. You would have to sit there and gnaw on it becuase it really was like a chocolate brick. I remember just cutting off pieces with a knife because it was only way to actually eat it.

Solid is the best, but they are hard to bite. My parents always got me the cheapest hollow bunnies that were so thin they collapsed when they got warm! Also, I preferred the white chocolate to the milk chocolate. I always start by BITING THEY LITTLE HEADS OFF!

I guess it wouldn't make sense to say "Nibble on they tiny feet" when referring to a bunny, would it?

Hollow is good. You can fill it with rum. The kids won't bother you all day.

I just discovered that the ones in our Easter basket our solid Dove chocolate. I have to admit that I used a knife to saw off an ear but it is indeed quite tasty.
