Does anyone know where someone can rent DC points if they dont' have enough points to make a reservation?

Also, is there a secondary marketplace for DC points (rather than buying them direct from Marriott)?

Has anybody rented points yet? How does it work? Let's say I need to rent 175 points, if a pay someone for the points, do they call Marriott and transfer them to my account? Thanks

I believe that's how it works, yes, if you've enrolled your Weeks or purchased Points (and thus are a DC member.) Any Points you rent from another DC member will be transferred to your account and you will be able to make DC reservations with them as if they are your Points.

DC members can also make reservations with their Points and then turn around and rent those reservations to anyone, DC member or not. The DC member will then add the renters' name(s) to the reservation, but will retain all rights to it.

Susan is correct in explaining how it works.

I routinely rent my points to Tuggers, and have done it both ways as she has accurately described above.

So, as I understand it, a DC member can make a reservation with points then rent out that reservation. You have done this and it is permitted by Marriott? I'm thinking about doing this for one of my reservations.
Thanks for your input.

There have been a few reports on TUG of Points owners doing this. It's the same as renting a reservation made by an owner with his Week, which Marriott has been allowing for years.

While it's true that the Points docs contain a "commercial rental activity" restriction that's similar to what's in some of the Weeks docs, Marriott has never defined how many rented reservations would fit their definition of "commercial activity." Also, I don't remember ever seeing a post on TUG that Marriott has prevented someone from using a reservation rented from an owner, or a post saying that an owner's rented reservation was cancelled by Marriott. I'd say that you can be as comfortable with renting reservations made with Points as you are with Weeks.

(An owner renting out an II exchange that s/he got with a Marriott Week deposit is a totally different thing. II, not Marriott, prohibits the rentals of II exchanges or Getaways. There have been a few reports on TUG of II canceling an owner's account and pending exchanges when they're caught renting.)

Thanks Susan. That's what I thought but it doesn't hurt to check.
I have since spoken with my VOA and she told me I could change the name on the res. at any point.
PS: how was the sox game last week? Whats the word on Beckett?

Ugh, we were there Friday night for the 10-0 shellacking the Rangers gave us. Before that night Miller had had a couple good starts but they didn't give him any run support; that night it was all on him because he didn't have anything good from the very beginning. They probably should have just let Wakefield take his spot in the rotation that night because he did pretty well in relief - maybe if he'd started then he'd have that 200-win monkey off his back. Right now it seems that monkey is affecting the whole pitching staff because last night Bard uncharacteristically blew a lead for Wakefield.

The Sox are odd this year, their pitching and hitting are VERY streaky and it's tough to get a "feel" for what the team thinks its chances are in the playoffs. I won't be surprised if they don't go very far, also won't be surprised if they take the whole thing.

Back to Friday night - it was the first time in a very long time that I'd been to Fenway as a half-empty park and that's what it was from the 7th on. I've been there for a couple of the after-midnight marathons and despite the T being shut down before the game ends, more fans stayed for those games than did for Friday night. It was just a terrible game all around.

{eta} Whoops, forgot Beckett! He had an MRI Tuesday, just a sprain but he'll miss his next start on Sunday. "Precautionary measure," and then be evaluated again Monday. They NEED him if they're going to have any chance at all.

Sorry you didn't see a good game, but to me, any game in Fenway or Wrigley is a good game. It always scares me when the "experts" pick the sox to be the team to beat. it's like the kiss of death. Should be and interesting post season! The tigers and rangers are looking better every day.And the philthies, fugattaboutit

Looking to get in

Can somebody help a newbie out here. I'm interested in getting into Marriott and the flexibility of a point system is appealing. Espeicially if I could get in on a small purchase and rent additional points. Is the only way to become a new DC member to buy direct? If so what's the cheapest one get in with? I'm mostly interested in marriott South Tahoe and KoOlina, does anyone have experience booking ski weeks or days there?
