Groceries at Harborside

I'm trying to gradually come up with my lists of what to pack and what to get at the supermarket for our trip to Harborside.

Can tuna fish be packed (in the can, in a suitcase)? My kids love tunafish

Should I bring cereal or buy it there?

Any suggestions on things I should definitely pack instead of buying?

thanks,

ill be purchasing everything there. Dont feel like luggin stuff to save a few bucks, and if you go to nassaugrocer.com you can see things arent that ridiculously overpriced. But id love to hear your list on things your bringing.

You can expect anything dairy or meat to be the most expensive items. But those arent things you can bring with anyways.

I brought frozen meat on numerous occasions.
I wouldn't buy it in the supermarket where the harborside shuttle takes you, it just doesn't look good enough.
On the same topic, many items in store are about to or already expired.
Are there any better stores on the way from NAS?

is there a specific supermarket I should request Sandra stop at -- one where I would be ok to buy chicken or ground beef?

Ask her, I would follow her suggestions. In the past I've gone to the store between the airport and Harborside, not the one directly across the bridge. It's a bit better than the other, though they are similar. However, I've not bought chicken or ground beef there.

It's generally advised not to pack peanut butter. The density of peanut butter is in the parameters that the machines cannot distinguish it from explosive, therefore guaranteeing your bag will be hand searched.

If you are going to pack it, show up early so you bag will have time to be searched, make it easy to find right when your bag is opened, and my practice if I know I have reason to be flagged is to put a note on the outside of the bag explaining the issue (bag contains peanut butter, bag has recently been exposed to gun residue, whatever the issue is).

When are you going? I'm in my way there this Saturday, and also commuting with Sandra with a stop at the store. I can tell you if the store is 'good' for the meet.

Don't forget salt, pepper, sugar and extra coffee filters and your favorite ground coffee!
I also bring:
instant mashed popato packets (add only water & milk)
canned or pouched chicken salad (great to make sandwich) & salmon/tuna salad
instant ramen (just ad hot water)
canned soup

I wonder what else would they confiscate that resembles peanut butter....perhaps regular butter, jams....?

I'm yet to see a store in Bahamas that sell good quality veggies :)

Saw this on TripAdvisor:

"One other problem we had was that we ordered our groceries online through Nassau Grocers and had hoped for delivery when we arrived.* But they never showed up.* I cancelled the credit card charge as soon as I realized (4 hours later) that they probably weren’t coming.* Of course I couldn’t reach them because their phone number isn’t published anywhere that I could find.* It made it quite inconvenient for our group since a few people had to get a taxi to go across the bridge to Nassau to the grocery store.* We were definitely disappointed.* The hotel says they’ve had trouble with Nassau Grocers before but to be fair, they aren’t part of Atlantis.* The hotel staff suggested that FoodStore2Go.com would be a better source of grocery delivery if you go that route, but are quick to point out that there are plenty or restaurants on the property."

Interesting about the peanut butter--have always brought that! Is this on a checked bag??
I always stop at the City Market with Sandra--newer one closer to Cable Beach.

Hi folks,

I wonder what kind of coffee filters are at Atlantis. Cone or Cup type?

Also, if you were going to Harborside, what would you bring to save some $$$.

I imagine coffee, salt/pepper, coffee filters, dishwasher soap....

I know someone earlier in the thread wrote what they would bring, I am just wondering what others bring to save some cash (while balancing weight/travel burden) issues.

Thanks,
Paul

I actually have a bag that I have prepared only for timeshare travel. I stock up on minimus.biz once a year, and I also save packets from fast food restaurants. I will try to take some pictures when I get home of my set up. I bought a "toiletries bag" and use that.

Basically, everything is miniature. I have PB and J but they are individual servings, I bring 2 sets in case we want a PB&j one night. It's not like we are going to sit up in the TS and eat nothing but PB&J the whole week so I don't need a whole jar. Plus I bring single serve ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, miracle whip, bbq sauce, tartar sauce, sugar packets, sweet and lo you name it. Anytime I go to a fast food restaurant I always look at the condiments, and if there's something neat, I will take one or two. I also carry a travel corckscrew, shout wipes, clorox wipes, dishwasher tab and laundry sheets, foil squares, etc. I also bought a mini spice bag from somewhere that was recommended on tug, and bring that too.

We pack almost everything for breakfast and lunch except the dairy items. Used the porter at the airport and have never been searched.

We even take a thin Britta pitcher and empty plastic bottles so I don't have to lug bottled water back from the store.

Coffee filters- I take the basket type. If it uses the cone type, I just fold it.

levatino, ... The coffee maker still took basket type, #4, flat paper filters when I was at Harborside this February.

I can't recall a Starwood-managed timeshare resort that I've stayed at where the coffee maker took anything else, like a paper cone filter.

Enjoy your trip to Harborside! ... eom

Im at Harborside now. We used delivery through foodstore2go.com and it was pretty amazing. Prices were reasonable, and she showed up on time and put the groceries away for us. She seemed to know the units well and gave us the guided tour of the kitchen.

I'd definitely go this route again.
