I have reserved some days in the platinum season in 2012 using legacy points. If I have reserved seven days for example, can I advertise that week for rent just as if I had reserved a week under the old method.Could I rent any number of days that I had reserved?

I realize another option is to cancel the reservation and try to sell the points.

There isn't anything in the rules to say that you can't rent a reservation (of any number of days) unless you count the vague prohibition against "commercial activity." But seeing as most of the Weeks docs also contain a similar vague prohibition and folks have been renting Weeks for years, I would say that you should be as comfortable with renting a reservation made with DC Points as you are with one made through the Weeks system.

It's been mentioned here that there is less risk in renting DC Points than reservations made with DC Points because when renting the Points, you're actually transferring them to another owner's DC account and they're responsible for all the transactions. Renting a reservation will open up your prospective renter pool to anyone, DC member or not, but just like with Weeks rentals the ultimate responsibility for the reservation rests with you.

Siberiavol,

I do not believe Marriott will object to isolated rentals of reservations, even though their rules object to a commercial business. In the Disney system, which appears to be a system that heavily influenced Marriott's design, the anecdotal data from owners suggests a relatively large number of reservations annually (20???) before it is considered a commercial business by Disney. Marriott may develop a similar interpretation over time.

Personally, I've booked individuals days that I rented to my friends. I think we all understand the risk of renting to someone else, who could then trash the room, complicating our lives as the owner of that week.

Good luck with your considerations!

Greg

Greg,

Did you add their name to your reservation ? How were the logistics handled?

That's what I did, I made the reservation in my name and then added their name as a Guest (all through the VOA). My friends arrived at MOC separately and checked in without a problem.

Best,

Greg
