I'd like to start a thread of what's worth (and not worth) going to or renting.

Good:

Soul Surfer - Wow, excellent movie

Hop - cute, the grown ups accompanying the kids would likely enjoy it too

Rio - cute, fun even for adults

Killers - really enjoyed this, have seen it two or three times

Knight and Day - also enjoyed, worth seeing

Unknown - good, but intense

Tourist - excellent

Bad:

Skyline - repetitive, loaded with clichés, so bad it was almost funny.

I Resemble That Remark.

King's speech - excellent

Little Fockers - not so good.
King's Speech is outstanding. The film title is double-barrelled, referring not only to Prince Bertie's speech impediment, but also to the successful wartime address that Bertie gave over worldwide radio after his coronation as George VI.

I won't be viewing Little Fockers. The earlier movies in that series were short on humor & long on vulgarity. (The title alone is an indication.) No need for another dose of that.

I've got the Kings Speech recorded on the PVR from pay on demand - looking forward to a quiet time to watch it from start to end.

If you have interest in the preservation of wildlife, you may find the Born to Be Wild 3D IMAX to be a nice viewing. Admittedly at 40", it seems like a high price vs. the overall entertainment value, but the movie was very well done.

It tells the story of two women raising orphans who have become abandoned by their families, typically due to human intervention. Specifically, they work with elephants in Kenya and orangutans in Boreno.

Since I'm planning a visit to Dame Sheldrick's center in Nairobi this summer, it was especially interesting to me.

Robert Downey and Zac G really stunk it up in " DUE DATE". Not good.

We saw Hannah yesterday - it's purely an action film, but we liked it.

The Tourist (slight spoiler)

I'd like to start a thread of what's worth (and not worth) going to or renting.

Good:

Tourist - excellent

We just watched it tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't believe, however, my hubby figured out the end of the movie twist!

I kind of did too....at least suspected it....not that there were any real signs during the movie, it just seemed like something I might have written if I had been the writer.

- saoirse is amazing in hanna, and there is a great long take with eric bana
- battle los angeles was pretty "feel good"
- limitless was fairly entertaining
- source code was interesting, id think not disappointing to fans of moon

- inception is a must see
- salt was pretty good
- tourist ending made me think of (recent) thomas crown affair

- girl with dragon tattoo was really really good. two sequels were good, but not as great.
- liam neeson has been doing great in his recent action roles, which were jump started by taken, which he was absolutely amazing in. after titans sequel he is taking some time off, then doing a taken sequel !!

We don't watch many movies - last time I actually went to a theatre was Quantum of Solace, the Bond movie.

But watched Inception on pay per view after our son recommended it. Excellent movie but you really have to watch it to follow it.

I highly recommend Winter's Bone. Of all the Oscar nominees, that is the film that has stuck in my head. It's not light; I would call it "challenging". Don't see it if your mood is to escape for a couple hours, there are better choices. Toy Story 3 is really good for that; you won't mind seeing it as adults, Mrs and I saw it together in the theater. For that matter, if you haven't seen Up yet, that is pretty damn good, too. Don't shy away from those two because of the animation.

We didn't care for Inception, but it's good enough that you should see it and decide for yourself. At the very least you'll admire the inventiveness.

In theaters now, there isn't much we're interested in. The Lincoln Lawyer is OK enough, it isn't great but it's good. It was fun.

For rental, in addition to the aforementioned we enjoyed True Grit, Black Swan, The Fighter, and The Town.

I would like to see this again when I'm wide awake and able to pay attention

I just couldn't follow it or figure it out. Everyone I know that has commented on it says it's a great movie. I was pretty tired when I watched it. It's good to know that "you really have to watch it to follow it."

Anyone seen Memphis, which apparently is a Broadway play, but for some reason they're showing it at a local movie theatre and my sis has free tix for us? Sounds good to me.

My husband kept dozing off and then trying to get me to explain what he'd missed - couldn't figure out why the setting kept changing. After pausing it three times I finally "suggested" that he watch it again.

I went to a movie a couple weeks ago and it was so bad I can't remember the name.
Two guys on a road trip with an alien. Worst movie I've ever paid for.

Our $3.50 1940s movie theatre is showing both Hannah and Lincoln Lawyer this week so we'll get to see them both! ($3.50 per movie - still less than half the price of anywhere else, and the snacks are also low-cost!)

I liked the Fighter.

I saw The King's Speech on our Hawaiian Airlines flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles last Saturday. It was pretty good.

I just saw Tourist on an airplane and was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it but skipped it in theaters due to the bad reviews.

We saw Source Code a couple of days ago and liked that too. Think an action version of Groundhog's Day.

I'm afraid to see Water for Elephants. I loved the book but the casting seems wrong.
