A salaried manager at Mayan suggested I google "Groupo Mayan" + "Wyndham Alliance" for more information. I expected to find a website with information explaining the alliance perhaps written by Mayan or Wyndham.

I am PAYING for internet today at MP. I googled it and got:
#
Grupo Mayan International Sales, Cancun(Sanje Consultores S.A. DE ...
1 Jun 2009... to get information about new things in the Groupo Mayan property. ... sold by his sales office in Mexico under a Wyndham alliance When ...

#
Grand Mayan Los Cabos - Travel Forums : Kosmix
... flagship for Groupo Mayan as they're making a push for the Grand Luxxe, ...

I thought I might have spelled it wrong but I find http://www.wyndham.com and http://www.wyndhamvacationresorts.com and www.wyndhamworldwide.com

Does anyone have better links to read more. I specifically want to understand the relationship of RCI + "Registry Collection" with Mayan among other things.

THANKS in advance for any comments.

There is a new level of Wyndham membership that includes RCI's Registry Collection and presidential suites at the Wyndham resorts. I believe Grand Bliss is part of that as well.

Once again, programs that command a high price with Wyndham but don't transfer in a sale, specifically hurting the owner and the resale buyer.

Now I understand why Sally was posting about Grand Bliss and Wyndham both. I am starting to piece this puzzle together.

Wyndham is the scum of the timeshare world, the way they devalue the ownership. I feel sorry for anyone who paid a lot of money to get developer points.

we became Mayan owners long before we became glacier canyon owners(for the kids waterpark mostly). The wyndham alliance with mayan palace is basicly a way to bring in new prospects for sales...it is a block of unused and developer weeks that mayan management has lent out in a short term alliance...these companies work with each other but are seperate..wyndham buying rci, probably had something to do with this..sorry for posting style:)

I went on part of the sales tour with Pat H - our salesperson mentioned the Grupo Maya/Wyndham alliance. (I am using the term Grupo Maya because I do not know which level of ownership qualifies for this program - but I assume it is NOT Sea Garden and Mayan Palace - the poor step-children :ignore: of Grupo Maya)

He stated Grupo Maya Owners could 'give' their TS interval to Wyndham for one years use and Wyndham will pay them a fee (I believe equal to their MF - did not seem to be any profit for the owner - what a surprise  )
When I admitted I was a Wyndham owner, I asked if I could then use my Wyndham points to reserve at the Grupo Maya property and he sheepishly said no - but as a Wyndham owner I could RENT :ponder: one of the weeks.

So there ya go....

http://www.wyndhamworldwide.com/media_center/pr/show_release.cfm?id=168

"PARSIPPANY, N.J. 05-08-2007 —Wyndham Hotel Group, a member of the Wyndham Worldwide family of hospitality companies, and Grupo Mayan® of Mexico today announced that four Grand Mayan® and five Mayan Palace® resorts in Mexico will become allied with the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts brand"

Steven A. Rudnitsky, Wyndham Hotel Group president and chief executive officer, said the agreement will "significantly increase our footprint in Mexico" and represents "a major commitment to that country," where Grupo Mayan maintains one of the resort industry's largest portfolios.

"We are very pleased to enter into this alliance with Grupo Mayan," he said. "Its prime beachfront locations, spectacular architecture and unsurpassed service and amenities have made it a leader in Mexican tourism for more than 25 years. Grupo Mayan is a proud organization dedicated to providing the highest level of services and amenities that exceed guest expectations."

Felipe Ramirez, Grupo Mayan vice president of administration, said the Wyndham Hotel Group alliance will enhance his company's access to North American and international markets. "This relationship builds on our demonstrated success in attracting vacationers from the United States and Canada, ensuring our leading position in Mexico," he said.

Grupo Mayan has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Wyndham Worldwide's RCI Global Vacation Network, which will continue to handle services for the group's timeshare properties. Grupo Mayan's relationship with Wyndham Hotel Group bolsters the Grupo Mayan-RCI relationship by facilitating the distribution of Grupo Mayan's open-market room inventory through Wyndham reservation channels

Wyndham/Grupo Mayan connection [merged]

It has been brought to light that the Mayan and Wyndham have an agreement to allow the Mayan to use THEIR NAME for some properties! This means that people who believe that they are renting what they think are Wyndham properties are actually dealing with the Mayan "in disguise!"

Wouldn't it be better if the Mayan worked on improving the image of its own name!? Ex employees of their sales staff say that "70% of the statements made by them during those "presentations" are " B.S." and that they have the worst reputation in Latin America as a timeshare company! No wonder we have the switch to another "more reputable" name. It should not be allowed!!!

Sounds like what's going on with Palace Resorts in Mexico; the largest purpose-built resorts have Wyndham branding, likely to stimulate sales. My own t/s, Cozumel Palace (formerly Sun Club/Plaza las Glorias) was not purpose-built but bought cheap by Palace after PLG went bankrupt. No Wyndham brand name attached to it (currently) but I'm betting because of its boutique hotel footprint, they're not aggressively selling anything there on Coz (but of course they always ask & are happy to sign you up for a sales tour over at Aventura Spa Palace).

Answer To The Sources Question Is Very Easy. I Learned It From Wyndham Themselves!

What are your sources for this having been "brought to light"?

What is interesting is that I was not told that there has been an official "amalgamation", which appears to have happened. It does pay to take a look at Tug's Mexico section and find out the truth of what is going on with the Mayan. Thank you for the websites supplied....my friends and I are rather impressed that this has happened. It was not what I expected to happen. But there you are: life is full of surprises!!!

Hope that this answers your question satisfactorily.

ALL THE BEST.

Vera:) :) :)

It appears that Vera is reading the various Grupo Mayan complaint websites and reporting what she reads here.

Current news...don't think so

This is really old news!! Grupo Mayan put this in a press release several years ago regarding the affiliation for marketing only. Certainly not a secret if in a press release.

Sally, you're absolutely correct. They are not one in the same; it is for marketing only.

Vera - It would be more useful if you posted a link to your sources, so that we can make an informed response. - Just saying "I heard," "it has come to light," etc., doesn't tell us anything about the credibility of your sources.

All Will Be Revealed Next Tuesday About The Wyndham - Mayan Liaison! If No $ Back

:whoopie:
What are your sources for this having been "brought to light"?

There is a letter that might have to be revealed next Tuesday if the Mayan does not react properly now after so long of stalling and procrastinating to pay back money owed to me. The Wyndham can do their part in this if they so wish, we will see by Tuesday just how much will be done......the ball is with the Mayan now!!!!

[Repetitive posts merged]

I have notified the Mayan i.e. [name calling deleted], that if no money is forthcoming to my bank account after all the reneging of last year I am going to publish the letter I have from the Wyndham re. liaison between the Mayan and the Wyndham received recently. There is more to all of this than meets the eye. That is all that I am going to say for now. The Wyndham know what my intentions are next Tuesday if the Mayan do not come up with the goods again.

Being that they are both in the same business and the Wyndham has the better reputation by far they can use their influence to help get my money back to me. We shall see on Tuesday of next week.

ALL THE BEST AND A HAPPY WEEK END TO ALL TUGGERS AND READERS!!
