I've been offered the SWA rapid rewards card for $59 a year. Normally, I wouldn't even consider a card with a fee but I get a round trip ticket after the first purchase so I am really thinking about doing this. I plan on making about 5 or 6 flights a year on SWA to visit my granddaughter. A round trip tix usually costs $200 to $250.

Anything else I should consider? Anyone have any problems with the SWA visa? I've read some less than complimentary things about Chase on Tug Lounge so I want to make sure I am not causing more headaches than the card is worth.

My SWA Chase Visa doesn't have an annual fee, and I haven't had any problems with it. I signed up for it during an airport layover in Houston.

I have this card, with the fee. I signed up with the same offer of a free round-trip ticket after the first purchase. Since I now have 2 dds attending schools in areas served by SW I felt it would be beneficial (especially since I can charge their tuition). I had previously had a Chase card with United ff miles. I've had no major problems with either card.

Not to hijack this thread but someone sent me info on British Airway's Chase offer that gives you 50k miles at acceptance and another 50k after charging $2,000 during the first three months w/ the VISA card. Annual fee appears to be $75 which is a bargain considering BA codeshares/partners with American Airlines (and Alaska Airlines, I believe). That works out to potentially 4 free tickets for just $75!

I have the SWA card you are asking about and have had no problems. I earned 3 rountrips so far and no problem booking them.

I had one while I was working. I'd get about a flight a year with what I charged, making the fee OK. After I worked closer to home and charging less it became apparent I wouldn't get the requisite 16 credits to earn a flight before they expired. They raised the annual fee, lowered my limit and I cancelled.

DW keeps her SWA Chase Business card and we put household charges as well as her business charges on it. We get about a round trip for both of us a year, so it works out.

Thanks for the replies. We have a cash back card and I still intend to use it for most purchases. I'll have to compare the value of points vs cash to see which card is the better value but I am thinking that if I can get a round trip ticket for the $59 annual fee, it is worth it.
