In June I reserved a 1 BR at Lindo Mar in Puerto Vallarta for week 52. I really needed a 2 BR so the RCI guide offered to do an on-going search for no charge. Since then, everytime I phone RCI they tell me I owe them $162 for the on-going search! I've refused to pay and told them to cancel the search. I'm used to doing my own legwork on-line anyway. They then offered to keep the on-going search for free this one time only. Well, today I got a call from RCI saying they had a 1 BR available for me. I agreed to reserve the unit and then they told me it would be 45,000 points. I told them that since the check-in date was less than 45 days, I wanted it at the reduced Instant Exchange rate. After talking to a supervisor, the guide agreed to allow the reservation for 9000 points but that their policy is that the date you sign-up for the on-going search is the date that determines how many points the unit will cost. Has anyone heard of this "policy"? This is my first time using an on-going search, and although it was successful, I'm not sure it's worth the hassle dealing with RCI.
