Hi people, Need some advice on the Onshore in Newport RI.
My wife and I are interested in a unitweek with a good view in the school vacation months of the summer. We would like to know how the unit numbers run in each of the 4 buildings. Which building has the best view. Is there parking for 2 cars, what floors are the best. Just need someone to talk to, that has been a member there and has to know abouts of the complex. thanks Eric and jane

I own at onshore, 4 units, and have been going there with my family for 15 years. It can't be beat for its location. The buildings are, Northwind, #4,Eastwind,#3, Southwind #2 and westwind #1. The numbers in each building are 4's in #4, 3's in #3, 2's in #2 and 1's in #1. Its in a U shape with pool in the middle. In each unit the numbers start low,121 to 146, or 221 to244 and so on. The higher numbers are closer to the water which are nicer. Some units are alittle bigger than others but basically the same. I would say that westwind is the best view then northwind then southwind, eastwind has a good view if you are on the top floor because the pool blocks the view on lower floors. Parking is for 1 car but sometimes you can get a guest pass if they aren't filled up. Any other questions let me know.

To help visualise the layout, think of a U laid sideways with the open part facing to the left.

At the rounded part of the U is Eastwind, at the top Northwind and the bottom Southwind.

Now, extend the bottom line part of the U and drop it a little below the U. That is Westwind Bldg.

The open part of the U faces water and the Marinas and Bay.

Northwind can be a little to very noisy at times from bands playing up the street, I'd discount the view aspect there.

Units layout run from side to side , so in Westwind from the two balconies there is a Marina on either side. Northwind the main balcony would face the water side and the other the pool side, Southwind pool and Brown marina and Eastwind Water/Marina and I would think Parking, but I havent actually stayed in that one.

Please note that if you want a summer week there, you'll have to buy a summer week from a current owner. There are almost no summer weeks available thru the Wyndham point system even for owners at the resort. This is because the resort & summer weeks were sold before the point system was in place. Most all summer week owners have not joined the point system. So even though you may own at the resort in the point system, the point system doesn't have any summer weeks for any point owners to reserve.

Bill:
Good advice, even points owners of summer weeks can(and usually will) ARP their week. The OP should look for OWNERS not MEMBERS for advice.

erijan,

Bill and e.bram are entirely correct.

From your initial post it is not apparent however if you are a Wyndham owner expecting to be able to obtain a unit in the summer or just a Hopkinton native who knows the resort is managed by Wyndham and posted in that section.

If a Wyndham owner, and I may have confused 2007 with 2008, under the old reservation system where you could look 13 mths out there were a max of 2 units for any week in the week 25-35 period. Most were 1 and there were two with zero. They were owners in the 59? unit complex who did convert.

At that point they had not exercised their ARP to use themselves and even if they did not and were unaware of the rental value of the weeks other VIP owners would be, and snap them up at the 11 mth RARP .

So, as Bill and e.bram said, with Wyndham, your chances are slim and none and Slim left town.

Thanks to all you guys for the replies. We have a unit at the Wellington and thought we could get another unit in Newport in the summer months at the Onshore. I guess I'm barking up the wrong tree here according to what I read from you all. Oh well, sure is a nice place and all of you must be having fun. Thanks, eric and jane
