Just back from our week at Westin Lagunamar. What a great property - the hotel is one of the nicest we have ever stayed in; lobby, rooms, pools and beach were all top notch. So hard to choose between the 2 level infinity pool or the deep blue Caribbean Sea.
We had a 2br lockoff in Building 7, 5th floor. Balcony views of the pools and beach were incredible. The suite was immaculate and nicely decorated, with plenty of living space.
Hotel staff was attentive and friendly, with several individuals going above and beyond to help (including a desk clerk who personally printed out our boarding passes when the business center had a technical issue, and the pool staff who cleared off chaise longues that were "on reserve" by others [and by the way, reserving chairs at 7am for the whole day - not cool, people!]).
No hassles to attend a Starwood "Owner Update" - not even a voicemail. We were expecting daily calls like at Vistana. Concierge was not pushy, and handed me the 20% off onsite restaurant discount cards without being asked.
We used Cancun Manny for airport transfers, as well as a day tour to Chichen Itza, and transport to Xcaret. Communication was easy, pricing seemed OK, and the drivers were prompt and helpful. Recommended.
La Isla Mall - a 5 minute walk literally across the street from Lagunamar -was quite convenient for this parent of a teen daughter in need of a shopping fix, plus there was excellent viewing of the sunset over the lagoon, and free admission to the (mediocre) aquarium with our Xcaret bracelets.
Criticisms
-Tierra Market, the onsite convenience store, was disappointing - small selection of packaged foods, meager supply of fresh foods like salads and sandwiches. Fortunately there were plenty of stores nearby.
-Dining options were only OK - would be nice to have a family dinner option aside from the Duna sports bar. Oceano was nice but more adult, and quite pricy. We didn't have the chance to try the Mexican or Italian theme nights. La Isla Mall, literally across the street, had plenty of choices.
