I am about to book a week at Willow Valley in NC.

I would prefer Chetola but nothing comes up for that.

We have a wedding to go to that is about 45 mins east of Boone. So anything further West is totally out of the question.

Can anyone tell me if Willow Valley is acceptable or am I making a big mistake?

Thanks - Mary

It is an older resort but the last time I checked it I liked it as they have individual chalets. Lots of things to do in the area. I haven't been there in a long time. but I'm never in the resorts for long anyway, always been out exploring. shaggy

It ought to be acceptable as a base for visiting the area. When we were in the area last spring, we saw a room. It was smallish but decently furnished and very clean. You'll need to drive to the indoor pool from some/most of the units but the pool was nice and clean. It's a basic rectangular pool w/ a separate kiddie pool and a hot tub, all enclosed in a glass-walled building w/shower rooms, towels, etc. Willow Valley is pretty conveniently located to the area's state roads and highways too, just a country block in from a main route that takes you into Boone, near NC's Appalachian State Univ.

The whole region is very pretty, btw, w/lots of sightseeing opportunities. All the shopping and restaurants in Boone are quite nearby, just a 5 minute drive, tops. Hope you enjoy the wedding and your stay. :)

Thank you for responding. I have been sooooooooooo nervous about making the reservation.

As long as it is clean and kept up, I am ok with outdated a bit.

We do plan on going out exploring constantly we just need a place to sleep and eat breakfast.

We aren't even staying all week, as the wedding is over Memorial Day weekend and we don't have the entire week off. But this will save us a bunch of money for 5 people to stay instead of a hotel room.

thanks again !!

Anyone else that has any comments about Willow Valley I would love to hear them-- good or bad.

Make sue you go to Banner Elk. Also, Grandfather Mountain. There are also two mines to go to . Maybe, you will find a very good stone. ???

Banner Elk is less than 30 minutes from Boone. I love Blue Ridge Village and have heard good things about Highlands at Sugar Mtn and Mossy Creek. The Branches in Banner Elk is the second highest rated resort in NC according to TUG reviews.

Try to get a 2 bed room deluxe if you can get Blue Ridge village as it has 1400 square feet and 2 levels including a loft. The deluxe unit has a king bed, 2 twins, and 2 fold out couches. Blue Ridge Village will rent rooms if available in case you can't find an exchange.

PS I gave you a lot of tips on the area on your other post.
