I have a unit on hold at Samoset Resort for week of October 24th 2014. Is this too late to see the fall foliage? I realize weather will be iffy, can be nice or very cold. Will there still be leaves on the trees this time of year? Is it worth going or should I wait for better week in 2015?

My $0.02 worth...

Too late for good foliage, but maybe some occasional morning frost.

There are no hard and fast rules of course, but I'd say that in general, mid-coast Maine foliage is on the decline after about Columbus Day. The week you have on hold is about two weeks later than that. I'd let it go, if peak foliage is your objective, but YMMV.

Thanks for your reply. That's what I thought. I will wait for a better week. If I can't get a summer week, I'd rather wait an get a peek fall week.

Thanks for your reply. That's what I thought. I will wait for a better week. If I can't get a summer week, I'd rather wait an get a peek fall week.

Odds for a summer exchange are likely very slim for Samoset, whose weeks (IMnsHO) are seriously "undervalued" as deposits (apparently because the kitchen stoves lack ovens) and good weeks are generally "overpriced" (IMO) when offered as high demand / low availability private rentals. Accordingly, you can easily guess which avenue most owners choose if not actually using their Samoset weeks themselves.

We own two weeks at Samoset; one in early summer (just before all the kiddies are out of school for the summer) and a fall week shortly before Columbus Day. We, or other family members, always use the weeks; we never rent them out. We certainly would never consider "depositing for exchange", a choice which offers relatively poor value from an owner perspective. Some owners may occasionally deposit decent weeks for exchange, but likely only due to "last minute" life situation developments and / or if they are simply unaware of the relatively low value assigned by the exchange companies because of the alleged "partial kitchen" (i.e., there is no oven beneath the stove burners; there is a dishwasher there instead. So, baking cookies is not an available option in Samoset timeshare units --- so what?)

Good luck, in any case. I hope that something better at Samoset pops up for you, one way or another. It's great place and a great area --- but not so much "off season", at least IMnsHO.
